Difficult decision mate, if you really like your car and can afford it go for it. But there are lots of nice motors out there to buy at the moment it's a buyers Market . Alot of people are breaking their cars which is a real shame even when theres nothing wrong with them I don't think I could do that but needs must sometimes . It's your call at the end of the day mate?

You are in a lucky position mate if you can get help to fix it at a cheap price if that was me I would go for it if you really want to keep it. Could always be worth forging it for future power if you can.

Would be worse for mess if you had to break it mate believe me, rather than fixing it. Go for it mate your bro in law sounds like a top bloke take up his offer, just my opinion.

Buy it for 50 notes, rebuild it so it is sound, then swap into your car with new gasket set, cambelt etc, job done.

hey Dan don't break it, you can pick up second hand engines reasonably cheap, go for it and put another engine it her, you wont regret it. Chin up.

As above get a second hand engine. I bought a Scoob for £500 with a dead engine, dead box, and a fair few other broken things. Bought a Forged engine and box and its superb.

If you go down the route of breaking you`ll be in a world of issues, and rebuilding usually costs more than a second hand engine.

I got offered 3 engines at £500 or less. Fitting takes about 4 hours out and in if you have plenty of help and do your prep work. Cambelt kit, filters and fluids adds a bit but gives you piece of mind.

1170 sounds good for all the parts you need for a decent rebuild, you could use 2nd hand parts but that really defeats the object of doing a good rebuild, the saying is, do it right, do it once.

Only problem with second hand engines is they can be a bit hit and miss, and if it's a miss and £500 notes down the pan X2 and you could of rebuilt it.

If you have the help of a good spanner monkey i would go for a rebuild,it's not that difficult, as tony says the parts for a decent rebuild comes in at around £1200 with quality parts that will run 350/400 bhp all day long, and then you have a zero miles engine.

Do it right, do it once, getting it wrong becomes very costly and your bro in law may not want to help you a second time.

Biggest debate on scoobynet mate.

Depends what engine, mileage, mods, driving style etc.

10w 50 is a good all round recommendation. I have Mobil 10w 60 in my classic running 300 bhp, 88,000 mile engine.

The oil wouldnt have caused your problem(s)
