Just bought my first Subaru! Any advice? Views?
Hi folks. been a member on here a long time, but never been a prolific poster as I've never taken the plunge and bought a Scooby.
Next summer I will be looking to spend around £10k - £12k on something, undecided as yet, but for now I needed a winter hack and I spotted this on eBay!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-SUBAR...torefresh=true
Bidded on it and won it, so going to collect next weekend. It's done 130k, which concerns me a little, but at this money it's hard to find much other than high mileage cars, but it has had a recent cambelt, just been serviced, has stacks of history and was owned for 4 years by a mechanic before the previous owner.
Hopefully it'll serve me well over the next 6 months
Is there anything I should look out for when I go down for it? I've asked about smoke, knocks, rattles, etc. and been assured there's none. But I've never owned a Scooby before and might miss something.
I'm currently starting stripping my MR2 Turbo so figured this will also come in handy for running any scrap bits to the tip, while still being quite entertaining

Check the waste oil hasn't reached the brakes.
When was the cambelt last changed?
Any smoke on start up
Leave the car idling when hot, after 10 to 15 mins rev to 3 or 4 k to see if the turbo is okay. It it smokes, the seals are knackered.
Listen for knocks from the engine when cold
Check the clutch by approaching a hill in a high gear, check the revs don't rise without the speed increasing or remaining constant
Check all the electrics work
Tyres should be matched on each axle depth and tread pattern
130k should not be an issue if properly serviced and not abused
Best of luck with it

£100 quid wont really get you much, it already has a back box so thats sorted, you may want to fit a knock link, or get a disklok for the steering wheel, that would be my first choice tbh.

Is it normal to spray waste oil under the car? Or do you think they could be trying to hide a bad oil leak! It would be quite easy to wash the bottom of the engine off or fit an under tray, but less easy to hide the oil under the car.

No, £100 won't go far, just wondered if there were any cheap things worth doing, like a cheap used intercooler or something, perhaps a cheap used set of shocks might be an idea etc.
Don't want to spend any real money on it as it's a workhorse/winter hack primarily.
My girlfriend also wants me to remove the stickers!

The stickers I really would like to remove. I'm just concerned that if I do it will be like one of those vans you see, where the signwriting has beent aken off but you can still clearly make out the letters that were on it!
