TMIC vs FMIC

TMIC vs FMIC
Im compiling a shopping list before having the bug remapped. Its completely standard at the mo, but have a quandary....
should i change my WRX TMIC for a STI TMIC or should i get a FMIC?
I know the STI TMIC's sell for about £160 - £180, and the FMIC's range from £200+
What are the pros and cos of running either, and what you would you choose given the choice ?
If you would say FMIC, what would be your weapon of choice? (please be kind in my bank)
Thanks
Shaun

If your car still has std internals, & its a wrx the the gearbox will limit your power before your engine, then the sti topmount, Andy Forrest was running 460bhp on an sti topmount.
With a topmount you will get heat soak from the engine, you will not get this with a frontmount.

Sorry for the noob Q but what is heat soak on the intercooler and what effect doesn't it have ?

I have a wrx bug running 350 std internals with a vf34 but have changed to a 6 speed but I did not break the 5 and it run over 300 for three years, I have just gone fmic from a big tmic and when remapped it spools a little bit slower but I got 7 hp more 20 ftbs more mid range .

hahah,
the standard wrx turbo (td04) is a bit like an asmatic blowing into the engine, makes changing to a front mount not worth it.
as soon as you upgrade the turbo then front mount is the way to go.
While other top mounts, such as the sti, will make 400bhp with the right supporting mods, after about 300 they start to be the restriction and you will see a better result from a front mount with inlet temps, they also dont suffer from heatsoak when stuck in traffic and give the mapper a bit more to play with.

Heat soak is when the heat from the engine & hot turbo warms the intercooler when a topmount, with the front mount you will not get this.
this only happens when the car is stood after a run.
looking at what you are wanting to do I would look at an sti top mount TDO5 18g turbo that will get you about 340 to 350ish then when the gearbox goes save for a 6 speed.
This is what I am running with a top mount, I get very little lag and its a GT3076 and as you can see from picture, I am running a Hyperflow topmount, I do get heat soak though.
Front mounts do look good and no heat soak,
De cat the zorst will help reduce the Lag and give better throttle.
Good look with the mods and get your name down for the overtime at work

What undertray are you running with that intercooler? With the strut brace there how are you making a seal around the intercooler for best cooling effect?
Thanks

bear in mind td05 isn't your only option, it can be got cheap but doesn't always get best results. vf35, vf34 or even sc series is also similar. It all depends on budget in reality.
