Econo-driving!!
So I'd just brimmed the tank on Friday night and had done approx 11 miles on Saturday pootling around. Today was a trip to Leigh to pick up some wheels off a member on here. About 102 miles each way from Scunny to Leigh, Lancashire and only had the Scoob to use = ECONOMY DRIVING!
So stuck to 65 on the motorways etc, kept off boost and no big licks from junctions etc. Me, the Mrs and baby boy there. Me, Mrs, baby boy and 4 17" wheels complete with tyres on the way back. Few roadworks, nowt overly threatening to my mission
So, got back into Scunorpe about 4.30 and pulled into Tesco. The tripometer said 216 miles. Needle on tank dial said half empty. 'Christ', I thought, 'this is gonna be pretty good for a loaded wagon.
The Scoob took 28.60 litres to brim which included about 20 clicks of the pump so she was oober brimmed, none of this 'one-click' panzy filling up
So with the following method...
(216 / 28.60) x 4.546
I averaged 34.33mpg
No word of a lie, my remaining hair folicles nearly gave up when I worked it out. Now as a compairson, last week I did 130 miles and it averaged at 22.4mpg with cold morning starts and shorter trips, so I'm confident she is not running lean on the above figure.
Couldn't fcukin' believe it - Scunny to Lancs and back on half a tank and under £40 of Momentum to fill up
Thanks for reading - you can go back to your normal business now

thats pretty good going. when i picked my car up fri it had half a tank of v-power in it, nice steady drive back (80 mile), little boost here and there, but also got stuck in traffic on m6 for 20 mins at under 30mph for the duration and used 1/4 tank, which i didnt think was to bad

Wowsers, thats some serious grandad Sunday driving right there
Not long after I bought mine I did a 254 mile round trip to Manchester on 40 litres which is 29mpg but there were some blats here and there so I reckon I could squeeze 30mpg if I drove like a vicar.

Yeah boring journey but on a straight 60 mile motorway stretch like the M62, doing either 65 or 95 doesn't make it any more interesting. Still a straight line across the Pennines. and I wasn't pulling out all slow and "Honda Jazz with decrepid old bid driving inside" like either. Just not wacking it off 5-6-7k rpm.
Key was a steady speed on the motorway set at about 2.5k rpm so off boost. 75-80 is 3000 rpm and spinning the turbo constantly. Not saying I'll do it all the time but it is quite amazing what can be had, and as above I wasn't driving totally miss daisy, just taking it easy on the m'ways.

Yes i agree,i think as i have said they are not as bad as everyone makes out but the secret is to keep it off boost, so it takes 5 or 10 mins longer to get where you are going if you can get 10miles more to the gallon kind of worth it on a run, obviously i don't do it normally but when you have the family in the car and just munching miles better to take it easy as you can get another 100miles plus per tank.
Well done

Good results. Just curious though, why you are sure it's not running lean because you got good economy? Lean = less petrol injected. A leaner mix will give better economy so surely these figures would point towards a lean mix if you already had reason to suspect that.

almost ashamed to say i regularly get 30+ out of mine on a run like ditch said it's about saying off boost, a gauge really helps then you can see how easy it is to be on boost.
Anyone fancy building me a 6 speed with the normal uk 5 gears + an even longer gear? I'd like a 1000-1300 rpm drop from 5th-6th, anyone know if that's possible?

Sure I said somewhere that the Subaru is my only car
Not suspect ting anything, just these my99s are prone to maf and lambda failure so always aware - that's all I'm sayinNotary really necessary for you to put thoughts into my mind, even though I'll ignore it anyway

34.3 is amazing, will never achieve that, get bored quickly.
Think constant speed is the key.
Did a late evening run recently, 86 miles, light traffic on the A14, one restricted stretch at 70 (average speed cameras) followed by a bit of fun from St Ives to Ramsey to make up for it, about 15 miles. Brimmed at both ends and recieved a pleasant surprise...27mpg
On 95 ron too, blooming Tesco in Ipswich had run out of 99ron
Usually get about 22mpg on the daily 28 mile each way commute

Apparantly there isnt a plural for tedious, but it is still a good joke and I will now smile even more every time I see a diesel powered Mundaneo

ahhh, yes I see what you were trying to do now. Sorry I just thought you were being thick as ****, saying plural when you meant acronym, which made me laugh for the wrong reasons. But now I get what you actually meant, it is quite funny.
