Facelift versions look SO much better than pre-facelift... in my opinion...

I'll never go reversed. The scoop adds cooling to the gearbox/turbo area.

Tbho I'd say all your doing is ramming the hot air back down in the engine bay while the reverse type allows the hot air to be pulled up and out by the fast air passing over the scoop.

My old car - RCM carbon vent. Draws air out of the engine bay when on the move.

people seem to forget that theres a huge hole under the car and at the back of the engine where hot air gets drawn out. N/A engines generate heat but dont have a vented bonnet so where does all that hot air go I wonder?

True but if you have a fmic, the scoop is pretty useless as it just rams air back in to the engine bay. Better to have a vent imho that draws the hot air out.

PS Hot air rises

Well NA engines don't have these big heat generating things called turbochargers sitting in the engine bay generating heat.

The reverse vents definitely do their job, I run a FMIC and use a reverse vent and if I sit in traffic then I can see the heat haze from the escaping hot air, so this can only be improved by the air pressure difference when in motion actually drawing the hot air from the engine bay.

I think your forgetting most car as standard have an undertray which would stop the flow downward fella.
Tbho you don't really want all of the hot air escaping due to the engine taking longer to get up to temperature which will cause more wear and the radiator fan is there to extract hot air or push fresh in should it be needed.

Lol, you'd better leave the scoop in place then! Or install it near the fmic so it catches the breeze ...

The S202 had the oil cooler at the front of the car - gratuitous pic as I love that car

I'd put an oil cooler in the direct path of where air will run through it, ie mounted in front or behind your radiator, FMIC or behind a fog lamp cover with a vent directing air onto it.

To me putting it where the TMIC used to be will just defeat the purpose as it will get heated up by the hot air which collects in top of the engine bay.

Well depend's on wot you mean buy being hammered ;-), It does reduce the temp by a lot something like 18/20 degs, Not a huge amount but help's keep my fmic pipes etc cooler :-).

I had the shape Howes has on my prefacelift bonnet, it just looked crap as the pre-facelift is smaller and sits really high.

What Banny has on the facelift bonnet looks alot better IMO.

Are there any hard facts and figures to suggest these are more than a cosmetic mod ?

I chose to keep the scoop and have the air cool the transmission

How many people fit these without having first properly insulated turbos, induction, header tanks etc ?

Sure I read a post by Harvey where he tested these reverse vents. From memory, underbonnet temps were higher as opposed to using the standard scoop.
In everyday driving or even spirited blasts I can't see this being a major issue, but under track day conditions or prolonged hard driving it could become an issue.
With the scoop cool air is forced down onto the engine bay, with the vent air enters through the front of the car, over the engine and then vents through the bonnet.
Personally I think it's 6 of one and half dozen of the other and really comes down to personal preference.
