Default Thanks to Enginetuner

A Subaru garage took my car for 2 "test" drives, having put insufficient oil in - they put 4 litres in but with the oil cooler and hoses, needs approx 5.5 litres, so no oil registered on the dipstick when I checked. As the oil pressure was a bit lower than usual, and being a perfectionist, I had the car transported to Alan to have it stripped, inspected and rebuilt. Thanks to Alan, Andy and Paul, it is now 100% again and running in.
Great job guys (again).

As my budget on the car is now reached (5 years earlier than expected - thanks Subaru ) the car is now for sale. At least the new owner will benefit from an Enginetuner "new" engine, back to 100%.

Ouch! Thats sounds rather expensive and annoying! You have no come back with Subaru as they caused the problem?

The Dealer Principal (who took it for the 2nd "test" drive said its perfectly OK to drive it (hard) with no oil showing on the dipstick as long as the oil warning light doesn't come on. So thats alright then. I'm sure we are all reassured by that !
Also I would need to show that damage had occured and that it was caused by them.

Ah right! That’s ok then! Even though the dealers are insistent you check the oil every 2 weeks or 500 miles its fine for them to drive your car hard with virtually no oil in it! How can they be sure the oil light never came on at any point? Sure they were watching it the whole time! Yep! Cracking job. I’d be furious if it were me! Besides, the thought that every tom, dick and harry at the garage has been having a play in your car! Top top service there!

Your right though, will be impossible to prove that any damage was done on those “road tests”! Bugger!

Bearings and rings showed wear so were replaced. Engine had done 17K fairly gentle miles (av per tank 28-29 mpg), no track days, mainly long trips. Oil pressure was lower than when I took it in.

Yes I am a little irritated !! What goes around comes around as they say.

Unfortunately I knew the oil pressure was not as high as normal so could not drive it let alone sell it knowing it was not 100%. Expensive character flaw

If thats the case I would insist on a hard test drive in one of their demo cars with the oil level the same as yours and see how that gets on or if they change their minds. If its not an issue it shouldnt be a problem should it.

Even if they allowed that, (and they wouldn't) they would be quite happy to sell the car afterwards whereas I wouldn't.

Stan - did said garage pay for the inspection?

If not, why not name and shame them

They admit no liability or responsibility - so no.
I am not going to name and shame - just want to move on

Anyway, this thread was to thank Alan !!

Default Frdiay

Saw your car at Alan's on Friday - nice looking car and very well looked after. I didn't get a test drive though due to the 'Tinkering'

Great looking car. Excellent spec
Out of interest why did you take it to a dealer in the first place?
