WRX or STI
Bought a blobeye WRX in Feb 53 plate with 29K miles. Since then I have:
fitted full decat hayward and scott system,
uprated pads,
walbro fuel pump,
K&N filter,
superpro front and rear drop links
24mm whiteline rear ARB
Remapped by Andy Forrest with two maps, economy and performance.
Now runs 282BHP.
She was always pretty in WR Blue with full black leather interior but have added fog light covers and carbon fiber risers for the spoiler.
HOWEVER..I am now beginning to wonder if i should continue with the wrx.. Its got more BHP than a standard STI and I've now invested in it and am unlikely to ever get that back or do I sell her and start again with a similar age STI? I appreciate that the STI is a better car but is it better than a modified WRX?
Interested to hear what you think?

can of worms opened again!!
you'll get loads of different answers, if your happy with your car then keep it, but the standard sti is already running that power with a remap and minor mods will be at 330bhp easily.
the sti has better brakes, suspension and 6 speed box (the weak point of the wrx is the 5 speed box).
if your looking for more power then the sti is probably a cheaper way to go to get bigger power.

Had both, A WRX that was completely standard when i bought it then 5 years later i think there was only the gear box and dash left that was standard it was running 332/329 and was a great drive, But IMO the STI wins hands down, So my advice would be cut your losses if you have any and bite the bullet and get an STI, A JDM model if possible,

agree with the above if you love you car then carry on but if the fact that it is not a STi and never will be a STi bother you then dont waste any more money and buy a STi.
I have done this many times and have learnt it doesn't matter what you do to a lesser model makes it the one you have always wanted..
I always wanted a JDM STi Blob, It had to be the wide track with the nicer interior and I finally got one after 5years of dreaming! I now feel like i have my dream car there is nothing missing! In the past with different cars I have tried to make it something its not i have never been 100% satisfied with it.

Thanks for these post. Really need to drive the STI to put my mind at rest. I have learned from experience that BHP figures and 0-60 times don't really matter what matters is what it feels like. Gaz as you've had both whats the difference?

i have had both also, sti is the far better performance car, the gearbox makes it feel faster due to its ratios and extra gear.
the brakes are far better and you get all the extra body styling parts.
as said before get a wide track jdm or at least a wide track my05 uk version as this has dccd and facelift interior

Just got out of you boat lol. Had a Wrx that I spent quite a lot of money on, she was running 344/290. Nice quick car but never felt 100%. Sold up and bought a jdm sti and wow, just with a remap she felt exactly like I thought an impreza would. Totally different cars. I'm now building her into a 500bhp track tool and have never looked back.

I currently have a Spec-C JDM STI which is for me one of the best imprezas made for the way in handles and delivers the power, If you can get a JDM version STI you will get even more for your money.

The only reason i bought another wrx is because they don't do a blob sti wagon, but saying that the only main reason to have an sti is the 6 speed if you plan on going over 350 bhp as above that most would change the brakes and the suspension usually needs changing and unless you go jdm then a engine rebuild is on the cards at 400bhp.
so in summary its all about the gearbox otherwise no real reason a modded sti is beter than a modded wrx, theres £1500 in it as thats the cost of a 6 speed these days..

different skirts, spoiler, seats, clocks, front bumper spats, brembos, wheels 6 speed box, avcs on engine, alloy suspension components. dccd box on facelift version.
quite different id say
same as the sport is the same as a wrx without a turbo really.
