No dump valve but it seems to depend model to model on the noise and Subaru's don't tend to do it very well

The sound is compressor stall, the air going back across the turbine when the throttle is closed.... general concensus is that TD series turbos can handle it, VF not so well....
Just remove the OE re-circ dump valve and block off everyhting that connected to it.
As for 'Mushroom' - Its a nickname for a HKS style filter.
Either that or you're doing things with garden produce.

i did this on my td04 just to see, and it was so quiet it was pointless, your going to need an open cone to get any noise

i never really noticed mine until i put my front mount on, the standard topmount and piping i presume did not hold enough volume of air to cause much compressor stall, afterwards it was very loud. i put my HKS back on tho as i dont want compressor stall.

you can put a stronger spring in the dump valve and that will make it chatter more,.

Mine did it a lot with having the dump valve blocked off on my old 93 wrx, Standard IC,and turbo.
I know turbo's are cheap to pick up nowadays, However the damage a bust turbo could do to your engine. Is it worth it?.Not a criticism. . Just a general question

It's easy on some cars to achieve, my skyline, 200sx and my RX7 all did it, even my mates GT4 does it now. From what I can tell the ingredients needed include, as straight a pipe as possible from turbo to induction (cone being loudest) higher boost, and if my mates GT4 is anything to go by, a FMIC seems to make a sizeable difference
removal of DV does make it easier, but I personally wouldn't advise this, especially if running higher boost!!! You just need to come off throttle slower while pressure is still up
simples

Agreed. The damage from a turbo breaking up is very often terminal.

Same as Scooby Dooer 69. Think he has a large k&n (maybe even RCM large one) and DV delete. Makes a fair bit of noise

VF35
FMIC
K&N57i
Would be the main ingredients for the sound I'd say!
Of course there were other supporting mods for the package as a whole, but not so relevant to the noise!
