I did the Litchfield thing as well. Hawkeye JDM car, first hawkeye Litchfields imported i do believe. 2 Litre engine tuned to 400bhp. Not quite a Type 20 but it does me... All it needs is an anti-lift kit and maybe a stiffer anti-roll bar and it'll be sorted. Only had it for a few weeks and can't see me getting rid of it.
Get a JDM car. More sorted than the UK car

Is the RB320 better than the WR1? I am also looking to buy my first scooby after recently selling my Focus RS Mk2, and I know nothing about these cars. Are you saying that the UK cars aren't worth bothering with?
Sorry for my ignorance, but what does JDM stand for?

The RB310 is a better (except the engine) car than the WR1, the 2.5 is seen as a bit of a weak spot and suffers more issues than the 2ltr it replaced.
JDM stands for "Japanese Domestic Market".
These cars were for use in japan only, they are normally higher specification and are deemed to be mechanically superior (which they are ) to their EU/US DM counterparts, producing more power and torque out of the box, and still from a 2ltr engine
JDM's are the best you can get, the standard MY05 onwards car fill the gap between themselves and the Spec C better than previous models, the Spec C isnt for everyone as it has no sound proofing, the differences between the later sti and spec c are far less than the MY03/04 cars also.

400bhp is more than enough for the road 700bhp on a car like a classic would need a BIG engine (no avcs), so anything fat n lardy would probably have you
What suspension have you got for your classic?

Your engine is only as strong as the weakest link. You may have the best pistons, conrods and crankshaft in the world capable of withstanding over 1,000bhp but you can't say your engine is rated at that if a head stud bolt fails at 300bhp.
If you want to claim to have an engine capable of more that 650bhp you need to have it built to WRC specification, and for that you need epic money.

Back on topic , if you want a Hawkeye and you are planning to go for big power why not buy one that is already properly sorted ?
2.5's make a far nicer road car than a 2 litre and with a properly built forged engine are reliable up to around 500 bhp , even more if the block has been pegged.
With a £15k budget you could buy something pretty special . I might even consider letting mine go for around that figure.

Check out the rb320 oc. There maybe 1 or 2 for sale there or info on RB's your looking at elsewhere.
