I've done similar trips a few times when I bought/sold/broke mazda's.
Luckily I have a friend with car and towbar so we used to hire a trailer for £30 a day from our local vendor.
Fuel + trailer for that sort of journey would equate to about £120-130 in a diesel, if towing the car 1 way.

Check out Shiply.com it's who i used to get my car from Lichfields up to aberdeen. Came up on a single car transporter and was about £380 delivered in 24hours.
