I'd be contacting icarcheck and making a claim against them. You've got shaft all chance of locating your beemer mate, if they knew there was 5k owing on it they must have been rubbing their hands to find a swapper.

Swapz, the place to off load your dodgy shizzle to unsuspecting suckers.

Mind you does icarcheck check for outstanding finance or is it accident stuff only?

A lot of the check companies don't check for finance. I nearly got done for a car with £13k still outstanding on it.

As a matter of course I did a second check and spent the £20 with hpi.com and they showed it up. Wouldn't use any other check. Guy sold the car to someone else day after I found out who had a lengthy court battle to prove he paid sufficient amount for the vehicle to claim ownership.

In theory if a car has finance on it, its illegal for the guy to sell or swap it. They are the registered keeper of the car but not the owner, the finance company own the car.

Good luck with your fight. Hope you win. Harsh situation you in mate.

Andy.

As i said i different thread, owner of car can't sell car on which is Finance(in my view this is illegal) and owner of this Subaru sadly is Finance company, your car is after if you are paid more than 75-80%

And good luck to OP

If you still have your scooby get it locked away sumwhere safe so they cant tow it away. I had similar done to me a few years ago but it was only £500 quid outstandin so i paid it. But when i went to the police i was told if you let them take the car youll not see it or your money again. Hope all hoes well for you

As far as I am aware you can contact the dvla and they will provide you with the details of the owner of the car for a small fee, unless they have changed the law recently on this.

Cant beat a real HPI check, non of these so called "Check sites or Mobile Apps" are as good as the real deal.

Think the op wants to locate the car not where the owner(guy he swapped with) lives as that is known. Don't know how finding his old car is going to resolve any issues though.

I think its more a breach of contract than breaking the law. Police will not be interested as its a civil matter.

Go to a friendly car dealership and expain the whole situ with them and ask if they are still able to carry out a full comprehensive check on cars which also include current registered address.

they used to cost around £40.

If I can prove that my car has already been sold and it was sold by the who I swapped with then I've got him due as if he does have my BMW then I can get that retrieved by trading standards
