Done to death - panel filters
Yes, I know, along with "what dump valve" and "what oil" threads, this is next on the list of 'done to death' topics... but I'm rekindling myself with Subaru ownership still after a 3 year break.
Now my Scoob is a my99 uk wagon with the rather fragile MAF and I wish to change the standard air filter. She's getting mapped by Bob Rawle next month so need a replacement by then.
1. Brands to go for?
2. Oiled or dry - any possible damage to said MAF?
3. Anything of possible concern.
Guys on my99-00 Subaru's - what's your preferred air filter (no induction kits please) and why?
Thanks

There is nothing wrong with oilled filters, the oil is designed retain fine dust particals for better filteration.
It's only when people over oil their filters after cleaning, that causes problems.
When you buy a filter service kit there is a guide in there about how much oil to spray on & you can check it afterwards by weighing it on a set of fine scales. Make sure you ask for permission before you borrow the scales though, you coulld get into trouble....

I've read that the Honda S2000 has a big paper cone filter as standard...

I had my green panel filter replaced when shot and was told the standard filter would near enough do the same job. I'm still in 2 minds though whether to replace it to green again as it was mapped with this in.

I use green cotton on all my scoobs as they are good value for money and are more or less fit and forget. No panel filter or induction kit will improve bhp but you do get a nice sucking sound
