Hot Pipes.......

Default Hot Pipes.......

I have fitted a front mount interecooler, but the pipes going to and from it are getting hot from the engine, is there anyway to stop this or a way to cool them down or keep them cool?

ceramic coating mate is my fav or as above exhaust wrapping. There are also heat proof tapes you can get from places like demon tweaks

wicked cheers ppl, with the wrap is it the more expensive it is the better it is or is that all just bollox?

I was told NOT to bother wrapping the pipe from turbo to FMIC, as you want to lose heat from that, but to wrap the one from FMIC to inlet throttle body.

And that was by a guy who knows his stuff abouit underbonnet temperatures, cooloing etc.

well yeah its the pipe from the turbo that goes over the engine to the front mount that is getting hot the one back from the wing to the inlet is fine

We are wrapped our Intercooler pipework with heatwrap,not sure about the temps,but we are have fitted too Turbo blanket

Here is picture how it looks

if you use heat wrap with the metal ties. don't just cut the ties like you would cable ties. these will slash your hands and arms when you next tinker in the engine bay.

make sure they're nice and tight but snip the ends about 10-15mm long and use long nose pliers and try and roll the ends back on them selfs into the joint. (hope that makes sense) you then should be left with a neat very small oval with no sharp edges. You or your mechanic will be greatfull.

just another note: about letting hot air out and not wrapping them to contain the heat. You can get ceramic coats that allows heat to escape and not penetrate whilst keep the cold in. the opposite for what you want on your exhaust. I've got this on my FMIC pipework and I've had good temp readings

Have you considered the pipe from the turbo is hot because the it is shedding the heat from the hot air inside it (a good thing)?

Hey Jura, I notice that you HAVE wrapped the pipe from the turbo over it's first few cm, where it will be hot and will lose some heat, but you HAVEN'T wrapped it under the intake, or through the wing?

If I was to wrap ANY part of that pipe it wouldf be directly under the air intake.

As i said we are running Turbo blanket too(which hope so will keep under bonnet temps down)...Other bits will be wrapped too in near future
