Default Will a 96-97 WRX engine fit in my 98?

As above really, just wondering if it will be any trouble, mine is an import but not sure about the one i might be buying, any difference? will my manifold and turbo bolt straight on and all work fine? The 97 engine doesnt have the coil pack in the centre of manifold, im aware im changing manifold but dont know if this means there will be problems elsewhere?
Also is it a good idea to do this or not, the engine has done 66k and am able to hear it running before i buy so will know if it has any knocks or bangs etc just not sure if there will be a difference going to a slighly older block and heads?
Thanks guys, all help appreciated

the heads are different mate so you would have to use your heads to get the inlet to fit.

its 99/00 phase 2,s you would need to change heads
you might need to change the water cross over pipe, inlet manifold and possibly knock sensor

Phase 2 my99/00 engines use a different inlet manifold spacing so earlier inlets wont fit.
You can use a phase 1 or phase 1.5 inlet on earlier engines but not a phase 2 engine

Pete is correct here

Version 1, 2, 3 & 4 all use the same inlet manifold to head design and they are interchangeable, after that you have version 5 & 6 which are the 99 & 2000 cars and they have a different design and the early manifolds won't fit.

Don't ask me what the difference is, I just know it doesn't work
