Default is it wise for a newbie??

hi new to the site and being doing my reading up on scoobys ( more complex them a diesel lol) and am looking at a very nice car (wont say, what, were or whos it is) but its highly modded and will be my first scooby as dont wanna buy one and do it up my self (no time to go from standered to highly modded.....im lazy ) but will be doing odd little bits to it so is it worth going all out and buying a highly modded one or cutting my teeth on a standered one before going all out on a big boys one lol ( dont worry i will be buying the one i want and am looking at if it dont sell before i get the cash lol) but what do you lot think start of small and work my way up or just go for it??

thanx all new to site so be nice

Hello what car are you coming from?
The insurance will be the killer (also your age, depending how old you are).

go for it, just be very very aware that it has to be treated with respect and i don't just mean a gentle right foot. it will require more servicing and care to keep it all working as it should.

got a link to the car as there might be things that you are not aware it should have in place to run high power safely with out going pop etc. no offence meant

We wouldnt pull it apart. It would be good to know who modded it to what spec and who mapped it. There are some poorly modded ones about

We wouldn't pull the car to bits, but a bit of constructive critisism may save you thousands of pounds. If not built propery the car will be a bottomless money pit.

If I had my time again, I would of bought a modified Scoob instead of modifying my own.
But when you are running 500 ponies through a 2.5 no mater how well made it is, things still break, it might only be a drive shaft, its not always the way something has been put together or the materials used, some time its just the loose nut at the back of the steering wheels that drives it too hard, then blames every one else,
my car breaks because of the way I drive it,
But defo buy a good modified one,

and welcome,

Bez

Ok well my point was if you are new to the fold and have no experience in subaru ownership and I assume are looking at an impreza running over 400 plus bhp in a classic or newage so have no idea of power boundaries what supporting mods let alone what internal parts should be used on an engine build let alone who is a builder to go near or stay away from or who to trust mapping it, if your not willing to pop a link or state some more detail about the car then what the hell is the point of this post. You clearly want it so go buy it. I just hope its a trusted and known memeber on here so your chances of bot being skanked are as low as possible. Hope you enjoy the new car oh n most on here would not rip the car to bits but offer some very helpfull and constructive points which could possibly save you stress n money at a later date

Oh n enjoy the new hatch and yes you are safe in the hands of everyone involved with that car.

If you are going to buy a modified scoob make sure it is was its supposed to be. There are plenty of cars being advertised as something their not.
Not teaching you to suck eggs but if you're coming from a diesel a standard sti ppp will feel pretty violent.

What im trying to say bigbang is there a lots of scoobs being advertised with huge power. But once members here look at the spec it becomes obvious the power claims are either fantasy or unsafe due to some parts still being standard. Dont get me wrong, there are some gems and bargains out there. Just do your research before parting with your hard-earned.

Lol, astra to a highly modded scoob, soon to be seen in a field near you..

And as for the someone else beating you to the punch,if it is a hatch i doubt it very much

And no doubt there are not so many well modded members cars for sale so it won't be hard to find out who's it is, thats if anyone could be ar$ed to look.

A bit of advice, if you want advice, then don't come on all cagey just tell us and you will get some good advice, but you already made up your mind so this thread is pointless.

Good luck with your purchase, and i hope for your sake it's as described, which will be a blessing and a curse, as even a lightly modded scoob to say 300 ish is a big BIG difference to as astra diesel..

Take it easy..

For the price (she is a sports hatch) she was a steal, ok not a 150 but the same engine/gearbox/clutch and pre 06 and she only had 16k on the clock (cost me just over 8.1k@2.5 yrs old) bargain from a vauxhall dealer

Which chip did you go for on yours??

Can someone explain what this thread is actually all about?

I dont get it. The OP has posted about a car he wants to buy but wont share any info and wants advice.

Theres 2 answers to this thread,

Yes, buy a car that is modded if you know what you're buying or trust the seller

or

No, buy something standard and do the work yourself and learn as you go along.

Simples.

Unless you have massive experience with these cars buying one without expert advice is just silly.Buying a modded one would be totally reckless.

There are loads of Subarus with bad ,irrational, dangerous mods out their done by people who know very little & plenty of people who sell cars that will tell you ridiculous stories of rare model types, power output & spec. There have been plenty of so-called great cars that people have asked about on here that have been shown to be completely false/fake.

There are people on here who can help you sort out this minefield.
Get as much info as possible as you can about the car.
There are great people on here who's combined knowledge is second to non & are very helpfull & will tell you what questions to ask & how to verify the answers.

Good luck.

I know which Scoob you're after as there aren't really that many white V3 STi's in the forsale section currently for sale

Seems pretty legit to me but only you or a mate in the know will be able to tell by looking at her in the flesh.
