JDM = Japanese Domestic Market. Normally a better spec than it's export version

But just remember with the even headers you loose the brubble. I made that mistake with my classic when they were added on after lol.

Side effect of the twin scroll turbo on them and the equal length headers needed for them.

He's probably after a classic, in which case 5-6k will pick him up anything from a version 4 type r to a version 6 sti.
Its only the MY03 onwards jdm cars that have the twin scroll and as Gaz said, there is no downside (if you ever hear one they sound better than the burble you hear normally )

280ps out of the box, shorter 6 speed gearbox (5th and 6th are ratio'd shorter, not manic as it will still do 170mph), different turbo, higher revving, rear wash wipe, electric folding mirrors, auto ic spray etc, higher spec than a UK car.

defo buy a jdm, the rear wiper is what it's all about, never known a car with one of these !! An added bonus to lose the burble too, how can you resist ? Ha ha.

Only the MY03 cars onwards have a different sound as these are twin scroll with equal length headers, though ask a twin scroll owner if they mind and they will say no (you have to hear the sound they make, it really is like a rally car )

Plus the speedo in in km so it make's it look like the car is faster due to bigger numbers Just don't tell anybody there limited to 112mph .

2 things that worry me about jdm cars.
They have spent their life in japan exposed to the elements due to not being under sealed, and it's not just salting roads that causes corrosion.
And the other thing is lack of history with the car prior to being imported. Years ago i knew a bloke who bought 2 mitsi shoguns imported from japan. He ended up losing both as they were stolen then exported. Police had a spate of pulling over jap cars and checking the VIN plate against numbers provided by the japanese police. I'm not sure if this is still a problem but with no history there is no way of knowing if the car is nicked or a crash repair.

ONe further thing to warn that I'm suprised nobody has yet to mention:

Is fuel grade.

If its already in this country and not been re-mapped for standard UK super unleaded and has been driven in this country, walk away.

Yup, plus more expensive insurance and some wont touch them. No re-call notices, and standard spare parts can be a problem which is probably the reason for higher insurance.

Out of interest, what ron is jap fuel?

As mine JDM WRX V7 has have from standard AVCS,which doesn't have any V7/V8 WRX out of box, from start has been cheaper to insure like UK WRX or STi..

JDM is way to go,if you are going for STi or WRX

A pertinant question rev.chris...

Do you like/are you okay with a tail-happy (realtively speaking) Impreza?

If not, then a JDM New Age STi is not the car for you (DCCD 6sp).
