Default Subaru/IM: rip-off merchants?

Just researched the price of a new seatbelt for my classic as it now refuses to rewind properly.

Are you sitting down?

£186.34, including VAT.

How can ANYONE say we aren't being bent over by Subaru and IM with that sort of price for ONE seatbelt?

Thanks Scott, but how new is it?
Mine doesn't get that much use, but the rewind spring is tired and I wouldn't want to buy another used one to find the same

Seeing that a WRX seatbelt assembly is priced around £150 in Japan, and about $340 in the US, it looks as if its about right.

LOL.

I'd buy the £20 one tomorrow......IF I could be certain it wouldn't be the same, or become the same in months.

After all, if it's off a classic it's a MINIMUM of ten years old

If you want to be brave you can take apart the belt recoil mechanism and it should be possible wind a few extra turns on the spring with a pair of needle nose pliars. I 've done this on few cars in the past (and also put a bit of sewing machine oil on the shaft).

However, best do it with a spare one, because if you aren't VERY careful, it can go boing, and you'll end up with one big mass of coiled metal tangled up in your hand.....you have been warned. As thats exactly what happened on the first one I took apart, took an hour to untangle it and wind it back up again.
