Type R advice
I don't want a classic v's newage thread, but how will 350bhp Type r compare to a 400bhp bugeye/ newage?
Would be a weekend toy and not an everyday car.
i have had 3no newage cars before up to 400bhp and looking to get back into a scoob real soon, always fancied a Type R or minted / moddified classic

The classic type r is a lot lighter than the newage/bugeye.
Are you talking straight line speed ?
Depends on the driver ! Type r 's have a tendency to be a bit of a hand full if you dont know what your doing as side ways they tend to snap back at you without notice but never the less a great car had mine for nearly 5 years and between the 2 you have mentioned type r all day.

Go for it mate.the type R will feel lighter and more raw.The shorter gears are so good for blipping up and down the box on b roads.Easier to get the backend out as well.
I've had mine for around 7 months and absolutely love it.
For a weekend toy they're hard to beat.

A 350bhp type r will rape a 400 newage. Its much more of a drivers car and that amount of power is about perfect for a fast road Type R. Its also rarer and more respected than a newage.
Others will say different, but imo i'd take the type r all day long.

i am fairly sure that a Type r is the car i want, there seems to be a few decent looking ones for sale in NI at the moment.
I would really need to find a decent one as don't want a cash pit!
I still like the reliability of a newage tho, good 6 speeder and brakes, there are a few nice modded bugeyes for sale at the momment too

The one thing you will find is that you are looking for 6th gear most of the time, but it has to be done, have fun in the type R but dont go to a new age JDM twinscroll aftterwards, you will get depressed
as you wonder why you didnt buy a twin scroll in the first place

I bet your spec C is a good car to drive but think your being a little optimistic, 350bhp type R is a bloody weopon...

Spec c would be my ideal car but too expensive for a weekend toy, really looking at a budget of around the 5k region.
No abs could be a challenge tho
Would a sorted classic with abs be a quick as a type r?

type r is a good weekend toy, it has a tendancy to feel faster but actually its not, i have both a type r and a wrx wagon ppp and the wagon is faster in a lot of situations, as it's more stable when pushed hard, and i mean hard.
This debate will go for ten pages and lots will think that its not possible for a newage to be quicker but it's not all about numbers, it's more about driving dynamics, and the gears, the type r will get away quicker but my wagon would reel it in with the better ratio's and stability,as you really need to be used to the rear wheel drive characteristics.
But the fun factor is very high in the r and if you know how to get the best out of one they are quick, and give a great rush, but it is a battle keeping it on the road when giving it some beans, you need to be able to stay focused and make sure you set it up right before you hit the twisty bits as they can be very unforgiving of the less talented, unlike a newage which will not bite quite so easily.

And by the sounds of it the answer is yes an abs car probably would be quicker.

It's pointless arguing the toss about classic and newage as there will always be lovers of both and one will not back down over the other.
BUT the facts are obvious
1.Classic feels raw
2.Newage feels more refined
3.similar powered classic/newage,the classic WILL out accelerate newage given weight advantage[but only in the right hands lol]
