I wouldn't say it's an issue with an Impreza engine. A big heavy cast block might have some "give" in it, but not these light alloy ones.
It doesn't seem to matter with these if they are new or not, you invariably have to carry out some corrective machining which is why we always trial assemble first.

I prefer to use those that have had a good amount of heat cycling so that the tolerances do not change after the initial heating.

Also, the factoy doesn't catch all the little buggers of debris out of the block.

just a preference

Yes, well.
So you'd take the new engine out of your car, throw it away then fit a used one ?

you've obviously been down after hours then and seen 'the back room' Heard Alan does a bit of discount if you have two engines at the same time

I like that as well! We have our moments, one of our staff is the best alloy welder I've seen. I just wish we had all the time to devote to it all.

So is this block machined by you? What block is it based on, how/where do you get the design for it?

Thanks
Sam

It's a new EJ257 block, we are just preparing it for a customer.
It's all in the detail.
