Default Forged Engine Noise

Evening all.

I am going to view a car with a forged engine.

When I take it for a test drive, what sounds should I be listening for and under what conditions, to let me know the engine is fine?

For a short period after the engine is first started I might expect a bit of slap until temp is reached, but other than that should the engine sound any different to non forged?

Thanks,

Should only hear slap on tickover & is loudest when cold, some still do it when warm if running a big piston to bore clearance for big power & high boost. Take it up to 2500 RPM & it should sound sweet with no knocks or noises atall.

+1 above a little slap/tap on tickover is quite normal but not once the rev's are picked up.
Forged ej motors are quite renowned for being a little noisey to say the least lol.

Tbho that is very sound advice given there isn't much difference between normal forged noises and the start of something bad.

Go look at it if in any doubt about anything ask the seller to go with you to your local Scooby specialist for a pre sale check over at your expense. Small price to pay for peace of mind & if he's a genuine seller with a good car he won't mind.

As already said piston noise is normal even on forged Sti pistons, a slight tapping sound that dies down after a couple of minutes.
