Default Anyone else think this is a shame?

I have been looking for some wheels and tyres for a bugeye recently (still am !! ) but when looking through the breaking section i was really surprised by some of the cars being broken.

I couldnt believe there was cars 5 years old being stripped down.

Obviously someones making some cash from it and its good if your looking for parts but still a shame in some way.

I wonder how long it will be before the amount of breaking will stabilise the residual value of the cars.

It would be interesting to know how many of each version of impreza are still about. Anyone at the DVLA?

Funny you should say that as I was just thinking the other day that in the last 12-18 months there seem to be a lot less classics on the road and most of the ones you do see are obviously enthusiast owned.

its a sign of the times, cars are worth more in parts than complete which is a shame as a lot of very nice cars are being broken.

but on the other hand theres a lot more parts/competition so prices are lower as well

I'll probably break mine when I'm ready I think. I couldn't afford to give it away for the prices they fetch now. It'd be a shame to break a bugeye sti wagon as they're rare but I understand they're worth more in bits.

It's not a new thing, my last car (a V6 cavalier) was worth about £500-600 if I had sold it, I had the time so I broke it and made over £3k which went towards the scooby

Resale values of cars a poor at the moment and the value of spares is high so more and more cars will end up being broken, I just wish someone would break a car with a full set of k-sports on so I can get a nice cheap brake upgrade

running costs are killing theses cars now,
low mpg, high tax and insurance, imprezas dont make sense in these times and are therefore worth less on the second hand market but worth more in parts therefore are being broken.

Sign of the times, Its been like that for a few years now, Especially with the £2-£2.5k gearboxes, The Bug Sti is a classic of the future as there will only be about 5 left soon, Lol

Or absolute sheds on their last legs. Ebay is a pretty good gauge of whats left out there. If you estimate that 5% (guess) are for sale at any one time, then you can multiply it up that way.

Sadly, its dificult to decipher whats what when it comes to the Imprezas on that site. The UK cars are fairly easy to spot, but imports have been registered with lots of different descriptions - e.g. many classic WRXs are registered as GLs, mine being one.

Only if you pay ebay prices, or prices from breaking companies. Better deals to be had buying "privately".

They were at one point but there a lot more people running more power these days and it all comes down to supply and demand, If there are none for sale privately and someone cant wait they will pay whatever the market price is and it seems private sellers are starting to follow suite with the prices, Dont get me wrong if you can wait for one you will probably save a few quid if your lucky as there are some bargains to be had if your quick.

full car 4500 maybe 5000 broken could see 6000 6500 breaking cars is ok as long as you have the know how time and space also selling a whole car you looking for a certain buyer breaking it you can have 100 people looking for bits

At least £6K + VAT from a dealer...

and most will need the whole rear end to simply the swap.

dunx

P.S. JDM STI has shorter ratios - good for a track toy, hawkeye box has longer gears - good for 200 mph.

I was looking for a clean STI RA the other day, and noticed how few there were for sale, and the prices are going up.

yip spot on m8 pretty much every classic you see up here now is well cared for - you hardly ever see a rough one - perhaps its natural as the cars get older only people who can fix them themselves or have the money to pay to get them maintained become the owners - you only have to look at e type jags - every single one in the late 70s early 80s was a dog and could be picked up for pennies as they dissolved in the rain.Have a look at them now all beautiful and worth serious money.

I agree, Im selling my bug at the minute and the only good serious offer on the table close to my asking price in from someone wanting to break it for parts.

It's a shame yes, but like someone else said insurance, tax and petrol prices are rapidly sending impreza's to an early grave. And these costs will only get worse.
