So is a carbon bonnet cool or not?
As the title really, is fitting a carbon bonnet to my blobeye going to make me look cool or will i just look like a boy racer (no offence) at track days??
Does the fact that you have to explain to the uneducated that its supposed to look like that and it shouldnt be sprayed make it uncool?
Your thoughts......

Funny you should mention it, was just looking in to one for my blobeye. It's personal preference imo. I think it gives the blobeye a mean look on a WR blue body. As for the boy racer image, well it's an impreza, I think to most people it tends to be a boy racer car with or without the carbon sadly.

Hate it personally, and it puts me off going to look at a car if it has carbon panels on. The problem with modding is we all like different things. Maybe keep the OEM bonnet and put that back on when you sell the car.

What is cool is how much lighter it is than the standard one, and the fact that weight is at the front end where you dont want it! .... and as said, why not keep the origional one for if when you sell the car! changing a bonet takes all of 10 minutes!
If your doing it for purely cosmetic reasons, then its too late, your already a bit of a chav!
If your doing it for weight and therefore performance gains, and dont want chavs to think your one of them, get a thin layer of paint and laquer put on the outside skin and youll retain the standard look! stealthy!

I think they are just dandy! We have seen many a standard ebay chavmobile achieve well over 400 bhp (claimed) the second they have fitted a carbon bonnet! Awesome bits of kit!
On a serious note, I personally think they have had their day. As said, why bother when you already have an alley bonnet! Be interesting to weigh both and see what the difference is?

I fitted a Carbon Bonnet to my Type R, I think Carbon suits some colours more than others, I did plan to paint the sections either side of the bonnet the same colour as the car but never got around to it. I think it depends on the whole look of the car though and people will always have different opinions.

All very interesting points, i have always had the carbon bonnet fitted because its lighter but i was very suprised when i put the alloy one on, the weight difference is not that much at all.
I will weigh them both to see exactly how close they are next time im at my shed.
I agree that they are expensive but with the age of vinal wrap, who can tell from 10 paces who has spent £500 or £35???

Have seen some carbon bits that have not aged well in the sun. I have the scoobyworld carbon sti spoiler on my car which is a very well made bit of kit. Although most of mine is painted to match the car, the top isn't and even that has gone dull in 1 place. Carbon won't last as ling as a painted finish.

Carbon is cool, if you are actually making a light weight car and properly going for it, otherwise it's just a waste of money in my opinion, but then again i lost the point of making a fast/nice road car after i became obsessed with making mine a track car lol.
Your car might be a fast road car, but it will be even faster stripped, race spec and on a track! lol
Thanks
Sam

Ive caught the weight saving bug with previous imprezas, the last one ended up with no boot/ bonnet hinges etc all in the name of going faster around the track.
This one is going to be different, i would like to still use it on the road with the option of chucking the wife and kids in it too.
I bought the car with carbon bonnet already fitted and have the original alloy bonnet as well. looking at rcm style vents instead of scoop, But not to keen on paying rcm prices.

No real point in my view if it's a road car, sell it and get some money and put it towards some power or exterior styling that isn't a "i spent loads on this item and it's for looks and doesn't benefit me on the road" lol.
A couple of years ago i would say yeah 18" wheels, big brakes...but in doing it, it just lead me to making my car a track car, which i'm happy for that it worked out like that.
If i had another Impreza i would have 17" wheels, the godspeed 330mm brake kit with 2 pot rear brakes. Some decent suspension for these **** roads, a heater would be great lol. I would love to make a fast road car as it goes as well as my track project that has it's uncomfortable times on the road.
Thanks
