New Subaru Owner :)
Hey,
My name's Rich and I'm from East Sussex, I'm 20. Just bought my 1996 Subaru Impreza WRX STI (pictures should be below somewhere), completely standard and staying that way. Needs a clean, it's done 63,000 miles. Could someone please tell me what mileage is the best time to do the cambelt? I've been advised by someone on SIDC to do it every 35k miles or 6 years.
I'm hoping to start my insurance October time, so lots of time to do cambelt, clean it up and get it ready . Then I'll be attending some of the meets.
Comments or criticism welcome.

Most of them aren't log cabins. I own my own business which is a campsite, opens up in April and closes in October, hence why I can afford the insurance for a year at the end of October hehe.
Nah it'll be staying as it is, keep it original and cheap-er to insure .
Quick question, I've done some insurance quotes for when I'm 21 (also in Oct), they want £4700 which I'm willing to pay for (some/most of you will think I'm stupid but cars are my hobby and Subarus are my dream), its with Elephant, think they will insure me or is it one of them situations where when I try to go ahead with it it'll say no.
I've been insured on a Subaru as a named driver when I was 18 with no problems..

think you should live on Rich's campsite for a year mate as insurance sound cheaper in his area!
Yeah keep it standard but I too give it a month before you add a splitter or something!

Lol, won't charge much, just the cost of my insurance for a year . Where I actually live is a very quiet new estate, mainly old people.

Mind you, 330bhp should be achievable for under £1500, so maybe the numbers do work out

Even better get a diesel with tow bar and trailor and keep the scoob for track days! That'll save you £4,700 a year until it gets lower AND you get to drive it at 107mph on track saving future tickets/fines!

Just did another quote and Admiral say they can do it for £4000. I'll be 21 when it's insured, seems to drop it by about £2000 rather than doing it at 20.

I was trying to make the point that insuring any car at your age is going to be big money, so at least from that perspective, insuring the impreza for that price does not seem as shocking, and also that it wouldn't take £4700 to get 330bhp.
Hope that clears things up

Yeah maybe I was mixing it up with someone else. Sorry. It's what I want to do so I'm doing it, just wanted to become a member of the Subaru Community without being judged or anything like that about the amount I spend on it.
(not aiming it at anyone in particular)

Hey it's all good, and welcome to scoobynet
Insurance premiums these days are pretty eye watering normally, yours is on the far end of eye watering. But I'm sure most on here would pay that if it was the only way to run a car with the scoobs performance!

try confused.com think admiral/elephant own the site??
anyway, get an online qoute and phone up using the quote number, they WILL accept. cost me £2800 to insure my stock hawk sti when i was 21 (9 months ago) like you say, if it means that much to you you have to pay the price.
£1800 renewal in a few months
oh and welcome
