Default welding advise please ?

hi all i have just bought a japspeed stainless centre pipe but its about 3-4" to long ? so after having car up and having a walk underneath the easiest way to make fit is to cut a piece out and re-weld it ? so that way all the mounts line up still . only a friend told me stainless still cannot be welded ? is this true ?

cheers all

Dave

yeah i know its welded i can see the welds on the pipe basically just finding out how to weld it ? so it needs to be stainless steel weld ? is this equipment standard at most garages ? i dont want mild steel to be used if it rusts ?

stainless steel is easy to weld, but id use a tig welder to do it. you will have a lot less chance of going through the pipe and it looks a lot neater, usually exhaust pipes are 304l Stainless Steel so you will need 308L stainless wire

I'm going back to my school days but don't you have to weld stainless under Argon with SS wire?

yeah you use argon with t.i.g and argoshield with m.i.g also if its a butt weld you will need a backing Gas but if there just putting the flange back on you wont need a backing gas and 308L wire is SS
