HID question
Having had my car (blobeye) for nearly 3 years now, which came with HIDs where do I stand. They are definately far better than any headlights I've had before but am I more likely to get pulled for using them and whats the likely concequences, points etc?

100% Illegal, points and a fine, it will depend on the copper that pulls you how he deals with you. you might get lucky? thing is if you get pulled for it, they will know the craic, plead ignorance but you will only get away with that once if at all.

Technically HID's used in a headlight that is not designed for them are not road legal even though the chances are they will pass through an MOT as that only really checks for alignment.
If they're stupidly blue then undoubtedly you will draw attention to yourself and end up with a ticking off but tbh, I've yet to hear of anyone that's been fined by the police or given points just for HID's. Luck of the draw I guess.

The only time non factory fitted HID's will get you into bother will be during the MOT.

More easy money for the system....and DO be aware that if you go to court, istead of manning up and taking the £60 and three, you will likely get £100 and FOUR, plus costs against you.
Been there, done that, but not for lighting

Except that anyone who knows lighting can see, at a galnce, through the clear lens of a light unit that the bulb isn't a halogen, and will have been tipped off by the blue-ish colour and when he looks, the flicker on start=up.
They won't have to. Suspicion will be enough and away your car goes on a transporter

Or they are sat, bored and wanting to up their quota?
Wishful thinking.

At the very most i would expect them just to give you an inspection notice to take it to an mot station within a time limit to prove its now or was legal.

On someone elses insurance
Probably driving like a tw@t
I've seen a few barryboys pulled around here. All of them using 8000k or above hids. Personally I think retro fit HID's into reflectors are junk. Stick to below 6000k without glare and you should be okay.
I was reading on the Civic forums where they are using a H7R hid bulb in a reflector unit with very good cut off. The bulbs are ceramic coated to eliminate glare.
