im having a full respray and both rear arches repaired nxt week has anyone had this done? did the bubbling come back?

 

Had one side done last year, the other was supposed to be done last weekend but my mate was busy!
So far so good! Not returned yet!

 

I know people that have had the rust come back.
Your only chance is if the bodyshop cut out all the rusty metal and weld a new plate in.

 

As above, new metal is the only way if the rust is bad. And sometimes it's far worse than you might think.
Here's mine, didn't look too bad from the outside, just a couple of small bubbles.

buy a pair of old front wings , drivers side front wing lip fits passenger side rear and vice versa , ive had mine done and it looks superb after being done properly. by a j williams (the same person who done dozza's spec c ) the result is fresh metal and next to no filler

mines just bubbling one side and the other side is not to bad at all.

steve- dont think there gonna cut all the bubbling out just repairing it, fingers croosed it dont come back, if it does then i will have to get it cut out, later on in the year.

 

Pretty bad mate, had it all cut out and plated. The plate is quite big. As said above its nearly always bigger than it looks!

 

The bodyshop who did my car also give a warranty for as long as I own the car. Any bubbles come back it gets done free of charge.

 

madscoob- how can i get hold of a j williams how much did yours cost , and did you get paint job aswell, cuz im thinking i need full respay so as the paint will look all the same.

 

Quite often the bubbling arches are signs of the rest of the car. These get fixed because they show. Delve a bit deeper and you may find the car is riddled with rot where you cant see. These cars are getting old now especially when you consider a lot of bugs and even blobs are having floor pans replaced due to rust.
Before i spent to much on arches i would pull the carpets up and have a look.

I got my bubbly arches sorted for free! Someone bumped me, total loss, and their insurance paid for a rust free replacement 3 years newer with half the mileage! Result

 

he lives in devon mate . so a bit far for you, but the front to rear arches thing does work ,and i was lucky mine had a full respray 12months previous, so paint was still fresh, so it matched perfect so good the drivers side he only did the complete rear quarter , no blow in to door required

 

Yup, filler is porous and even if under sealed it will still allow some moisture through also the rusty metal needs to be chemically treated Ideally, you need to cut out the rusty arch and replace it

 

cheers for the feed back people, the bodyshop im going with have gave me a one year guarantee , and are going to cut the arch out if needed.

I would love to see some photos of how they tackle the job as it will happen to all classics in the future and if we want to keep them on the road we will all have to have the cut and patch jobs

My o/s is being repaired over Easter while I'm away.
Which also means my car will be locked in a secure compound rather than on the drive for my lads to "have a go in" Not that they would, of course.

Going to cost me £180, with guarantee.
A further £80 if the new bumper skin I bought needs resprayed too.

 

i cut mine out completely and fitted abw arches

 

I have started rubbing the arch back inside the boot, removing all the old seam sealer same with fuel filler cap. Mine has no visible rust but i want to prevent it.
I'm going to use a rust treatment on the arch seam just incase there is any rust i cant see then primer inside the arch/boot, apply new seam sealer and then paint. Same underneath the arches then underseal which should stop rust setting in.

Make sure you get the arches done inside the boot as its no good just repainting outside and not fixing the issue

Having seen your offside, £180 seems good value when figures around £800 for the pair have been banded about on here. Who and what's being done, Jeff. As you know, I'm getting signs now on both arches. Pm if you want mate. Oh and thanks for today too.

Place looks naff, but the bloke who owns it is solid, used to have a Scoob.
Inside he has all the right stuff.

 

You`ll disagree i know but for that money, it wont last many yrs, unless the guy really really likes you and is cutting all the rot out and putting new metal in for that price, fair play to him,otherwise, well, you know the drill
