Default impreza sport 2.0 awd - any good?

Anyone had a drive in one of these, i bet it will be a bit slow and heavy but reckon it should handle well enough.

in my othere thread regarding a 2 dr shell ive said insurance is way to high on a turbo-3900 per year third party fire an theft

insurance for the sport is 1500,so alot more manageable.

i was thinking get it how i want to look,ie wheels spoiler etc,buy front and rear strut braces etc and it could all be transferred onto a turbo after the insurance dropsso saving me money in the long run, what do we think guys?

also anyone know the power on one of these standard? 140-150 bhp?

thanks in advance

jamie

The later Classics are 123bhp - not sure on the Newage Sports. I had a Classic, it was an excellent jump from a Clio 1.2

120 bhp.
Have you had a quote for a sport with all the turbo exterior parts added ?
Yes I have driven one, and yes they are slow. No they don't handle well, good traction but that's something different to handling.
Also worth taking into account is they had 120bhp when they were NEW. They are now (I'm guessing your looking for a classic) pretty old and finding one which still has the amount of horse power it had when new is impossible.
They were slow back then, you can only imagine what they are like in today's world.

am located in plymouth @ simonraper.

someone please post the link to the other thread as i cant seem to find it.

i wouldnt like to get a newage as i dont really like the look of them, just thought that it may save me money in the long run as i can swap parts over to a turbo when i can afford the insurance.

am not to bothered about the speed although id prefer it not to be to slow, have seen claims of people tuning the 2.0 non turbo to circa 170bhp,whats peoples thoughts with regards to these claims?
obviously you have to take into the amount the cost/worthwhileness of shelling out money to bring it up to spec but i will be driving it for 2 years minimum.

or i can look at a bmw e36 318/320 for the same money and insurance costs.
definately going to be something im going to have to think about and look into more.

Before you go any further speak to your insurance company. We all know what happens to the premiums when mods are added, just because it's a sport will not change the fact that the insurance will increase dramatically.

understand what you are sayin mattyb but it will be the same with any car,re insurance as id mod em all lol

am thinking about it and it seems a bit strange that the power output is so low @ 123bhp,
considering an escort rs2000 4x4 is just under 140 bhp and its the same principle of car,my mate has a jap import mr2 thats 162 bhp standard. and a 2.0 golf gti 16v is 134bhp.
it does seem a bit odd to be so underpowered, possibly it was done so as not to outshine the turbo variant?
are there any restrictions known on the 2.0 n/a subaru?
possibly in the ecu and with the cam timing etc maybe its been intentionally detuned?
i dont know but it does seem strange, well to me anyway haha

iam curious how this was proven, were you both going around a bend at 30mph? because theres no way in hell you would keep up with a turbo which would take the same cornor faster. Iam not knocking the sports but they aint the same beast. Perhaps if you had upgraded coilovers but then its not sport suspension is it

I appreciate that buddy but remember that a classic sport in standard trim is still group 13. A few mods here and there and you'll be getting close to UK turbo prices as they are only group 17.
