Default newbe here-help needed.

somebody just told me they have been offered my car in august last year and said the engine had blown and been replaced with and estate engine.
it doesnt say anything in the service history about this, just wondered can you tell the difference by looking at the engine?

Is the engine number on the v5?
If it is you only have to see if it matches the one under the bonnet.
