If you really want to affect Petrol prices, the government is your first port of call, not oil companies.

I rekon it's worth a try. What have you got to lose? Thats the trouble with this nation, no will power. In France, they rose the prices of petrol up, the WHOLE country was up in arms and didnt have any of it, the price was reduced again.
Over here we just seem to put up with it. More action needed. Im def gonna do it.
Crappy petrol prices
Some Humour:
When Mark Shuttleworth (the very rich space tourist) returns from
space, everybody dress in ape suits. It will only work if we all do it.
Pass it on.

I'm with you on this D J JDunk
It is hit with 85% tax by the government, garages margin is about 2% delivery approx 3% and that leaves 10% is the product cost - ie oil costs 10% of 76p/l = 7.6p/l - where as the government gets 64.6p/l.
Gorvernment in UK is the problem - they have done this to reduce the countries debt, not spent it on anything else aparently.

"On taking office, the new chancellor Gordon Brown increased the fuel escalator further and put three pence onto a litre of petrol in his first Budget. That pushed taxes up to 81.5% of the total price of fuel.
While duty rose by two pence a litre as part of the 2000 Budget, Gordon Brown also scrapped the fuel price escalator, saying that future increases would be decided on the basis of the "due Budget process".

Isn't the fuel duty a flat rate per litre, in which case reduction of the costs at source wouldn't have much impact?

And since when were BP and Esso the same company
Partners maybe, aren't they all. But certainly not the same company. People should at least get their facts straight before mailing this cr@p

Great idea
Especially if you are a Shell shareholder
I suggest that saving your efforts for the Government might be a better idea - given the relative percentages taken out of the price of petrol.

In the UK, most petrol stations only make a profit from the other things that they sell in the shops (milk, bread, papers, etc.). Carry on buying your petrol and boycot the shops instead.
And as we all know, it's the 84% tax that's the real killer. My "favourite" quote was from Quentin Wilson on 5th Gear. In 1975, the British Govt took £12billion in taxes from motorists and spent £12billion on the roads. Last year, they took £34billion and spent £6billion on the roads. 'Nuff said.

What have you got to lose ?!
How about bringing the entire country to a standstill again because the smaller suppliers can't keep up with demand ?
How about smaller firms going out of business because of lack of transport ?
How about ruining the lives of people trying to earn a living by destroying their companys ?
If you want to make a difference, sign here and get the government take note. Biting off your nose to spite your face never helped anyone. If you want to make a difference, don't make the rest of the nation pay more than they already do.
All IMO of course.

Not supporting the price of petrol, but if you reduce the price, then the money the goverment make form tax WILL HAVE to come form somewhere, THINK ABOUT IT, less ofr hosipitals and school.
Complain about the problm sure, but unless you have an effective solution then... its all just hot air.
I like more money for schools and hospitals, i have to sacrifice by paying tax
Just one point of view

Oil companies would have to raise the petrol price a hell of a lot to make a significant impact.
As FreeT says - 85% of the price is tax, not difficult to see where the biggest cuts can be made

Wont work. The amount of fuel used by cars is a very very small percentage of the amount produced by any oli company. I'm sure someone can give us a breakdown, but prices dropped in September October last year because less people were flying, so oil co's needed to generate revenue from the motorists. They dropped their margins just to get cash flowing. They wouldn't even notice the drop in revenue, and if they did, they could only effect the price by a penny or two. Much better to get the e-mail addy for Gordon Brown. Instead of hassling the oil companies, get those 300 million people to mail their complaint every day, asking for a response. See how much they need to increase 'stealth' taxes by to pay for the new servers required to deal with that amount of e-mail.

PS To answer one of the questions about England not having will power, we dont!! The rich/poor divide is too big, so people who can afford things dont care, and those that cant, have nothing else to rely on - IMHO
