Default newbie with few questions

hi i may be getting my first scooby in the next few days.
its only a 1999 sport but its a start.

what shall i look out for when viewing it?

also the bloke says there is a whiring sound from the rear when on the motorway and he thinks its a rear wheel bearing.
is that a big job on these or could it be somthing more seriose?

i have just phoned him up and asked him to explain to me again what sound it is and how he knows it wheeel bearing.. i did not mention gearbox.

he said that the sound isnt really noticable but its just one of them things that if you own a car for long enough you no its there.

he said that over about 60mph if he puts his foot on the clutch so engine sound stops he can hear a slight wheel bearing sound. and he will show me when he comes over with the car.

so now thinking about it. if its a slight sound when clutch down it wont be gearbox will it?

i couldnt really say what it is.. with out being with the car ect. it could be anything but you need to find what it is before buying. but i wouldnt say its a wheel bearing as i come across alot of wheel bearings gone and you dont need to go on motrway to here it. if you know any mechanics or a garage near by get the car check before buying as it may look nice on outside but could be something serious
