Default No water in expansion tank??

hi there, my car has been left on the drive for a few weeks whilst i am waiting for insurence to be renewed blah blah, i check the oil and water every week and start it up, but when doing checks yesterday i noticed that there is no water/antifreeze in the tank? and the week before i had noticed blue splashes of water around the area of the carbon canister and around the drivers head lamp area and there was steam coming from the grille (i couldnt really see what was the cause as it was dark)
going to fill it up again tonight can some one suggest what the problem could be and also what antifreeze to use i know radiators are common as i replaced one on my old turbo2000 but that was just due too over heating... im a little confuzzled?
sorry to waffle on and thanx

Could be a split pipe mate, that is a common problem. Probably won't be able to see it unless hot though.

Hope this helps.

Rad end-caps often get a tiny pinhole in them which leak under pressure as well.......
