Default Top Gear - Jolly well back on track old boy.

Many congratulations to Bob Petersen Engineering of North Devon for the magnificent showing of his Spitfire engined Bentley creation on Top Gear.
Yes, Martyn mapped it on our dyno!
Clarkson loved it, and yes of course we're pretty chuffed..

Seriously, check out www.bobpetersenengineering.co.uk the cars are astounding.

Stunning, missed Top Gear again, ive lost the excitement that made it impossible to forget about the show.

Some piece of Engineering that, how much power did it make?

I thought I recognised the car from your previous thread. Excellent work as always! Has Martyn convinced them to come back with some methanol or q16 yet

Great Top Gear yesterday.

The spitfire Bentley was an absolute beast but why didn't they keep the supercharger on it

From what was said last night I got the impression it was an engine from a tank, and they weren't supercharged AFAIK. The engine was known as the Meteor, and not Merlin as per the aero version.
Clarkson's words went something like "Essentially the same type of engine that went in a Spitfire"

Well, a Meteor did rocket across Britain last night!

And you'd think it was a Spitfire when it starts up right next to you..

They sound pretty much the same with no supercharger whine

The supercharger wasn't essential on the meteor as it had no altitude issues.

I was really disappointed with the Bentleys soundtrack. Not sure if it just didnt come across well on TV or its because I expected the sound of a spitfire. The German one looked bad *** with all the flames and smoke. Like something out of Mad Max.

I personally preferred the piece on the track cars. Bloke from Blur was pretty boring.

I have to agree that it doesn't sound like a Spitfire, although the reason for that is the open exhausts, the whine of a blower and a bloody great prop.
If that essence could be bottled, we'd be onto something!

No, but it does have "attitude" issues!

Slightly off topic but I've been working with this chap for nearly a month now and he's a keen car nut like myself. He's always telling me stories of his uncle's cars and then he said to me the other day "did you catch my uncles car on top gear the other day? O yeah my uncle was on there to" to this I replied " I'm not sure, which episode and what car?" Well his uncle is only bloody Brian Johnson! (AC/DC Front man) He sounds like a proper car nut, he showed me a vid on his new 458 he just bought, it looked and sounded great!

Anyway sorry about that, not something you expect to hear everyday. Will be making sure to keep in contact with him!

If you want a somewhat more up to date version of the Bentley, have a look here:

http://ppcmag.co.uk/1981-rover-sd1-2...rover-sd1.html

Charlie's been building it for nearly 20 years now. I remember him getting the engine from Anchor Surplus at Nottingham back in 1993. I seem to recall it cost him £750.

Watched this last night.

The attention to detail is incredible.

Kept looking out for the "Martyn mapped it" sticker.
