Default thinking of buying an old sti advice

Hello all

Ive not been on here for a long time lol, used to have a shed of a subaru 2k a few years back.

Anyhow thinkning of buying a verson 3 wrx sti,any advice on getting one much appricated.

Other then fitting decent exhaust to one is there anything else needed to be tuned on these bad boys or are they pritty good out of the box?

Are they tuned to such a high spec that the only mods left to do are exspesive ones?

Was budgeting around 3k for one that is up togther am I on the right tracks here

Personally I think even a classic STi are quite quick in standard form, Remember my brothers standard Version 4 STi was quicker standard then my 320bhp Evo 6 GSR a few years back. A full exhaust and a remap on a STi and you will be grinning from ear to ear!!!

Hi Ade I wont have the cash for around 2-3 months so wont waste your time.Just doing my research before I buy as my last car was a lemon lol.

Is there any years of sti to avoid or steer towards ie known for stronger or weaker engines at certain years?

I reackon with my budget im only good from 1994-1998 if its a genuine sti.

Thanks

hi, I may not be selling the car till then as maybe moving away. I know you want an old Sti, but the car I have is really a proper good one. I have owned it for nearly 7 years and spend loads on it making it the car I feel it should have been from new. Is worth a look over any old sti I promise. If you want a look just ask as will prob not sell until June anyway.

Just added some new images from the other day as it look now

Do a search on here mate, plenty of info about classic STi's.

Quick in std trim, and a good remap, exhaust and fuel pump will see the car at around 320ish. Gearbox, turbo, top mount intercooler and inj's hit their limit at 350ish....so will get expensive to get near the 400bhp mark.

As with most imports, double check all relevant codes match up, check history mileage etc.

You get ALOT of car for your money, buy one and enjoy

Just out of interest what sort of milage do they normally have to be rebuilt at as I have a v4 sti on 110000 miles now and its never had a rebuild. Should I start saving now? Lol

Drive it with "mechanical sympathy", regular oil changes, let it warm up/cool down etc and a car mapped to UK fuel and it will look after you imo.

depends really, most jdm cars if been in the uk and unmapped are running on lower octane fuel than they should be,mine went pop during a mapping session, mapping for uk fuel!
most seem to go around 70-80k.
is your car standard?
