Default Rattling (drop clutch and it goes)

There's a metallic rattling sound coming from my car (the clutch is on its way out and due to be replaced in a few weeks) but basically, when i drop the clutch the rattling sound stops instantly, let up off the clutch and it comes back, sometimes its really loud, sometimes its quiet, sometimes its there sometimes it isnt, .... clutch bearing maybe? Will the new clutch/flywheel skimming get rid of this annoying noise?

I would say bad release bearing.

Throw out bearing? New clutch and flywheel should sort, but isn't there an "idler spring" that stops clutch from rattling against flywheel when transmission in neutrel?

Most full clutch kits do yes.

Kits usually comprise: cover, friction/pressure plate, release bearing.

Also change the spigot bearing that sits in the flywheel

Sorry for digging this one up again.

My 02 sti has just developed this problem. I've had a wurring noise for a while and gearbox oil change didn't help. Today after a 20 mile trip to fill up the rattle was there. Seems louder with aircon on and goes either with clutch pressed or engine revved up.

Is it something that will just let go? I need to do a 340 mile trip next weekend...
