Default Best security add on?

Barring a snarling Pitt bull in the car, what actually works?

My cars got a Clifford Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, but I'd like something visible aswell to deter people.

Do any of them actually work though like the steering locks and gearlever locks?

Cheers
Dave

Might sound mad but if your car is Parked near your house at night baby monitors are good one by your bed and one inside your car if someone gets into your car at night you will hear them

Can the disclocks damage the leather on the steering wheels, I presume its clamped to it?

It can scuff it, very rare though, you can just put some protective strip around the inside of your "lok" to stop it doing that.

I'll have a look at getting a disclock then, cheers guys.

Also was wondering about putting a switch under the seat for the fuel pump, I presume all I would need to do is intercept the ground going to the pump right?

Reason I'm doing all this is there has been a massive increase in stolen cars in my area which in itself is a nice area.

I've had a mate have his lotus stolen even though it was in the garage with his wifes mr2 parked behind it, they just broke into the house at night while they were both asleep and got the keys and nicked both cars! Scumbags!

Tinting your windows. Stops them from shattering making it harder and messier for them to get in that way.

Alot of thefts are done with the keys as there stolen first. So id suggest something like a blackjax that requires a pin code. Disc locks etc are good as a detterent for someone walking by. But if your targeted for keys it will be useless.

The alarm is only as good as the guy who installed it, and the thing with subaru alarms is that they are all installed the same way and usually not the best systems.
The Cat 1 and Cat 2 alarms are both meant to be secure for a minimum of 5 minutes attack by a professional theif, the major difference if I remember correctly is that the cat 1 auto arms and the cat 2 doesnt, it has to be manually armed (the information can be found on the thatcham website for 100% correct details).

Would I trust a subaru fitted alarm system? errrrm no
Depending on which area you are in, in manchester, I know of a good alarm fitter in the Tameside area

Gearbox locks are a good option.

I've got one on the blob that locks it in neutral (on there when i bought it) and the litchfield had a Dipol security lock fitted just after i got it. That locks it in reverse which to me is better. Easy to fit and use and it does mean the only way to take the car using the keys/low loader unless they take a disk cutter to the interior!

Might get a nice angry german sheperd to look after the keys now.....

Thanks Tony.

I live in a pretty dodgy area but I have been lucky so far. My old civic Type R was never touched but this thing stands out a heck of a lot more so I want to do all I can to make sure its safe.
I'm under no illusion though that chances are if they want the car, they are gonna come after the keys. Thankfully I have two german shepherds that may deter them but at the end of the day, thats what insurance is for. I have just bought myself some tracker stickers to deter them a little more too but I think a better alarm may be on the shopping list

Garden perimeter alarms are great, CCTV and ultra sensitive floodlights, plus good security on the car and home.

I have a fairly complex setup on home and car (not going to list what for obvious reasons). Suffice to say, I feel as secure as I can.

As said though, make it obviously tricky for them and hope its enough for them to move on.

If you go for a Disclock purchase a small one. Mine came with a protective covering on the inside to protect the steering wheel from scuffing.
I agree protect your keys because most ppl leave them lying around downstairs & most thief's are aware of this fact
