Going from an STI to a WRX.

Going from an STI to a WRX.
Hi all, I have recently sold my Blobeye STI mainly due to running(petrol) costs, I have test drove a few non impreza cars that i had my eye on, But they were just so slow and awful to drive in comparison, Namely a Civic Type R and a Corolla Tsport, Also a WRX isn't much worse than these on fuel economy(om paper) but loads better to drive and quicker etc,
So my question is has anyone else gone from a STI to a WRX? And how did you find it, Was the petrol consumption noticely better etc?
Thanks in advance.

Dont think you'll find much difference at all in mpg between the wrx and sti.
Its a little tough. But if you want a car with better fuel economy. Its probably not gonna be much fun to drive.

I have a WRX at the moment, and my previous car was a Civic Type R (EP3) - if you're looking for something better on fuel than the STI/WRX, you really shouldnt be looking at a Type R, that thing was thirsty, mainly because there was no torque whatsoever and to get going you had to wind it up into vtec range where it really supped some liquid cash. The WRX aint great on fuel for me (even driving like a granny) but the fact is, its a compromise, great on fuel generally means boring to drive, terrible on fuel usually means seat of your pants drivers car. Good luck with the search.

My 2p worth it just from a std WRX (approx 290 miles to the tank) to a 330bhp which is STI stage 1 power and i get 250 miles to tank. ill take the 330hp over std anyday with that mpg

I went from wrx blob to my05 jdm sti, around town mpg the same, but on a run the wrx would do better, but not enough to change car for, can't you find one of the hatch wrx diesels don't think many were sold though.

My golf tdi cost 200 to insure and 130 to tax. Average 50mpg. I bought the car to replace the scoob but golf was costing so little to run thought fek it and kept both. I now enjoy driving the scoob more than ever.

I use the wife's A3 TDI 65+mpg when I need economy, but for everyday use, it's the scooby.
I have been wondering the last few days if anyone has had an economy map on a dual map ecu though. obviously the lower compression ratio means the car will not perform as well economy wise as a normally aspirated car, but I couldn't think of why a low boost map shouldn't be capable of 30ish mpg.
Fuel isn't a major issue for me, but it would be nice to have an economy map so I don't have to live with the A3 for long journeys ever again

mixin247 - get yer car to a mapper and check it out - you should deffo be gettin better than 180 miles out of a standard hawk
my wrx hawk kickin 288bhp (full decat) and I get about 250 miles out of tank. Before I had a 350bhp hawk sti (sport cat) and only just got 200 miles out of a tank - even drivin careful. before that had a standard hawk sti and got about 280 out of a tank.
Goin from the 350 sti to a standard wrx wasnt great and got her mapped, decatted very soon, but she is (now) much better than the standard sti was.
My classic wagon (around 265bhp) got 300 from a tank according to previous owner but the actuator was knacked and you you could drive her with next to **** all boost I get about 240 since turbosmart put in and adjusted.
Only thing goin from a blob sti youll probably find the wrx not too bad cos the turbo lag is a lot less.

I have averaged 250 miles from a tank from a standard 2000 turbo for te last 12 years
Mixed mostly fast short blasts
And 490 to the tank on my wrxd very rare car though not many for sale and are still 16-17k for a second hand one ,if you can find one
For you keep the Scooby and get a cheap diesel Mondeo if you need the space or a small Eco hatchback to sort you out and the Scooby for the weekends for a treat

I got a Clio sport 172 as a fun daily driver, not super fuel efficient but alot better than my impreza, the missus has a 1.6 astra cabrio and that is a rennet cheeper to fill but does Same miles per tank but it's ****ing slow and sluggish for a tenner a tank I would keep my Clio which I have lol
