Right here goes. My 2004 STi. If I leave it running. On idle, it takes about half hour for the fans to kick in. The Defi water temp gauge reads mid 90's and the standard engine temp gauge is just under half. I've got nice hot air at the vents. Is all this normal? Ie no air locks etc.

Just the man who I wanted to answer this question. Cheers mate . But one more thing. Once all the above has happened it still runs hot. Ie fans come in every 5 mins or so. And i dont mean to state the obvious but its bloody hot under the bonnet lol. Still normal ?

As Alcazar says, all normal.
Engine is not at Normal operating temperature until the fans start cutting in and out.
If there was a temperature problem, the fans would be running permanently and not cutting out

Is this happening while the car is stationary? If so then that is normal. Your car and any car needs moving air to cool the coolant whilst it's passing through the radiator. If it's stood still this can't happen and the fans will keep coming on and yes it well get hot! It's only if on the move you're getting these issues that you need to worry.
