Brilliant, did you see the first bit of incar where he lost the backend just before the gate and corrected it just in time . If only group b was still going

Absolutely brilliant, fascinating and interesting. I got into rallying through a friend who invited me to watch the Group B cars come through Haigh Hall in Wigan as one of the stages for what was the Lombard RAC Rally. It was like a drug totally addictive!

Wasn't actually group b but an amazing piece of car control nonetheless:

Great programme, really enjoyed it.

Showcased some amazing machinery and talent with little regard for safety from the governing body. Could you imagine Bernie Ecclestone being like that FISA president!

Great documentry, I will keep that on my Tivo box.
Some nasty scenes of the RS200 going into the crowd in Portugal and the shots of the remains of Toivonen's car. Never seen those before.

thanks kezzo lol , didnt think manta`s went that quick lol, that save made mark higgins one looked like nothing. ari was the man.
shame nothing was done to control the crowds alot earlier, i feel bad for the drivers who killed ppl but it had to happen when it was like that ,cars move a bit quicker than push bikes on the tour de france

It was interesting to hear the differing opinions of the two guys involved in the RS200 crash. Fatty, who sustained terrible injuries, yet had stepped further into a road the crowd was already encroaching onto was adamant it wasn't his fault and made some comparison to someone crashing into a house on the side of a road. Yeah, if the house had been uprooted and placed a few feet into the road!
The other guy, however, who stepped back agreed that the crowd contributed to the disaster.
One thing that is definite though, is that the manager/co-driver of Diabolique, although he was adamant that it was neither his or the driver's fault, could not hide the guilt that he felt about the tragedy. You could see it in his face and general demeanour. That driver should never have been stepping up into a car like that (nutter mobile is probably the best way to describe it) and doing his learning on stage. Stupid, but that is rally drivers for you, screw loose and very driven by ego.

Great show, them cars were seriously quick, there was no control over the spectators, how stupid are people standing out so close to the cars at high speeds and blocking drivers view to approaching next corner out in middle of road. No wonder there was so many accidents. If there was better rules regarding safety of spectators then the group b rallying could have kept going.

I enjoyed watching the show. IMO i think the group b is more exciting compared to current rallying.

Major under-statement
Rallying pretty much died for me when Grp A was scrapped in favour of WRC regs. I understand why it was done but you can keep it

They said it took 35 mins to get to toivenens car cos of the remoteness......that's a joke even for 80s safety standards tho.

And yes it did make me lol to hear different opinions of the Portuguese spectators!

The blame lays squarely with the organisers and the people who were thick enough to be on the circuit - not the driver. The same accident could of happened easily with a none Grp B car.
When i used to go and watch the Rally (before they decided to keep it in Wales ), i made damn sure if i was anywhere near a corner, that i was on the inside - not the out side and if possible - near a tree.

They showed a clip later in the snow, and you could see the Scandinavians doing just as you did. Steering (no pun intended) clear of the outside of the corners and nowhere near anywhere where an off could occur.

They seem to know their rallying better than the mad latin types!
