Torn between 2 hearts - Evo 9 or Spec C
Hi Members,
I'm in abit of dilema in regards to what car i should go for. I have already tried the below that i was going to consider. After further test drives etc, this was my opinion about them.
535D - Nice car & very economical with some umph, but the performance factor is not there and its abit too thug life.
E55 AMG - Too OAP for me + just too civilised for my liking.
RS4 estate Bi turbo - amazing car, quick! however the brutalness is not there & the service bills/maintanence puts me off. Shocking!
Now, this leaves me with 2 choices and takes me back to the Japanese.
Evo 9 (340, 360) or Spec C (V8, JDM Widetrack V9 or JDM V10 Hawk)
I have owned 6 Subaru's UK2000, WRX Import, WRX RA, V3 STI, V4 Type R & the S202. All have been amazing cars to own and i love the Subaru community. However sometimes i feel the need to change.
Please, what would you guys do in my situation. I will be buying in the coming months. I am pretty much confused!
I have spoken to a few mates on MLR and they have nothing but positives to say regarding the Evo's, biast? Well you tell me....
I love both cars, if i could afford to keep both i would, the only reason i am not confident about buying a Evo is because i have never owned one before, whereas on the other hand, i know my Scoobies very well. The Evo 9 looks amazing, has the mivec and with only a decat + remap can achieve over 400. I am aware of the boxes being weak, but the earlier boxes from E4 etc are cheap upgrades, opposed to the weak 6 speeds. The Evo is also cheaper to tune.

spec c hawk for me, although a widetrack blob spec c would come a close second.
i looked in to evo 8 and 9s but after a bit of research sounds like the ayc pumps fail a lot and tuning for big power is a much more expensive and unreliable.
other cars on list do nothing for me.

you need to own one though once in your life.
only plus point is there doesnt seem to been the influx of chavs covering evos in stickers to ruin the brand which is happening with imprezas.

I am not really a Skyline person, although a lot of my mates own them & i have grown up around them. I just find them way too big and not a car i can see myself driving everyday throwing it about.
I am more of a Scooby man myself to be honest and it feels awkward driving any other car, but the Evo, i have never driven & i feel its something i will enjoy.
To all the Evo reverts, please share your opinions with me

try an evo, i found the only difference was in the corners the evo feels far more planted due to being more computer controlled, i personally didnt like this as i like the rawer feel of the impreza.
i prefer the outside of an evo over an impreza but the interiors are nasty.
saying that id gladly have another but really there isnt much to choose between the two.

ive owned both and if you are looking at evo 9's the only 1 to buy is the gt rs running gear with still extras like ac and make over 400 for less than 1k something no impreza can but u dont get that sound as with the boxer engine

Done the evo's, done the subaru's .....evo does feel a tighter car on the twisties
But ... Every evo I've had had cost plenty of £'s when driving like a ****.....and before the good boy brigade start , why buy a car that goes well to plod around in
As for a which is a better car........
Fooook knows , I can honestly say I've (touch wood) never had a Subaru go wrong (without it being my fault)
Funny thing with a evo....you are always listening for something to go wrong
Spec c wins for me

What changed my mind about the GTR (and originally made me want one) is being taken for a drive in a 600bhp one, with a rather component driver throwing it about around the back roads of Surrey... Utter nutter of a driver!! Nurburgring addict!!
But if its not for you, fair enough... I have been tempted buy the Evo a couple of times, but the perceived running costs, shabby interior (compared to Subaru) and lack of a decent engine sound put me off.
From the scooby point of view, have you considered a 22b or a hatchback spec C? Hatch spec C could be very entertaining....
In all honesty, why would you change your spec C for a hawkeye spec C? Is there that much difference?

Kas , only you know what will be right for you , I to was looking for an Evo 9 a wile back but I wanted 1 that hadn't been touched , cldnt find 1 , & the fact the ones I did come across we're all 07's - it's getting on now , there will be ones out there on early 08 but finding 1 will be hard
On another note , 1 car in my opinion u forgot 2 test
911-996 targa , yes, it's non turbo , but it's 356 at wheels , has great handling & brakes , its dynamics alone stand it along with 400+ cars , b road & point 2 point is ridiculously good
Jst my opinion / I may get shot down in flames here ,, ha ha

I thought it was the unequal length manifold that made the impreza sound unique? something you dont get with the jdm cars as there all equal length i thought? Could be wrong though. But back to op, i'd personally go blob spec c, having owned a 2005 mr 300 i decided to go 2005 uk sti and tbh not alot between them, so a spec. c would be a cut above imo

Kas you know my thoughts on this, you own a S202, what is wrong with you? you have one of the best newage cars out of the box already.....
I know you are getting itchy feet and fancy a change, but i honestly think you will regret it long term

If your going from a S202 to a Evo 9 FQ300,320,340,360) or any Evo with AYC I guarantee you will be dispointed, You need the equivalent of what you already had(same sort of beast as the S202) and in Evo terms that would be a Evo 8 MR RS or a Evo 9 GT which has no AYC, RS diffs which are stronger, 5 speed close ratio box etc etc, Much more Raw then the normal Evo 9.
Made the same mistake twice with previous Evo GSR's but the best drivers evo I had was my Evo RS, Felt like a Spec C, Type RA or Type R If I had to compare it to a Impreza!!!
