Default high knock sensor numbers on apexi

hi all

had my car mapped yesterday to have it all set up right and was running fine on mapping and all day, went to use it last night and i've found the apexi reporting a high number on the knock, seems to be when giving it a boot and kinda miss fires and flash the check error light, looking at the FC display my knock numbers seem to be abit high, highest ive seen was this moring at 83

also i've found that the car bobs and sometimes cuts out when stopped at a island etc

any ideas please

83 is too high bud, ive heard at 60 you should be concerned! as said dont drive it and phone the mapper, or at least drive off boost (under 3000rpm) if u have to use it until you contact whoever mapped it.

Normal is 10/12/14 .. some noisy engines can be 19 20, the warning /check engine light is normally set at 35, I used to panic when mine said 20! ... 83 = FEEcccK!,...
Is it low on fuel? You can experience knock when you get fuel surge ie. run lean from the pump not supplying 100% fuel on hard cornering/acceleration, always run with 1/4 tank or more if your going to give it beans,
made mine knock to 95 once on my old classic giving it beans round a giant roundabout with the fuel light on

Your mapper should be able to advise you how to pull timing out of the map globally to make it safe to drive in the mean time (this can be done from the commander)

WOW 83 is very high mate,as Ginola said 20 is a figure some engines give ie forged with higher tolerances and the warning is usually set to between 35-45 but you are getting full on DET there, get it checked ASAP before you suffer an engine failure

Hi Matt,

As Ginola has said, you can pull timing from the Etc menu on the hand controller, but it is only a temp fix, you will need to do this every time you start the car because the ECU re-sets to the original map when you switch the ignition off.

I see 30+ on my forged 2.0 L CDB with no DET but I have seen 50+ when hitting the Rev limiter High boost + Rev limiter=

Get it checked out ASAP, something could have failed due to the increased performance, the map could be fine.

Was it done on a Dyno or on the road?

Regards Greg

My money is on cracked failing V1/2 coilpacks from increased boost. Will cause high knock numbers on boost on or around the gear change. mapping and boost increases very often see off old coilpacks or ****ty plugs. My advice would be to call the mapper, but check your coils too. If you do trace it to coil packs, upgrade to newage ones.

Very true if the misfire is causing the high knock reading

Certainly the case on my new 95 WRX starts off all good but when warmed to the point of giving it boost you would see high knock. Even when the misfire is almost undetectable you would see the numbers suddenly increase. The misfire would get progressively worse and the numbers higher as the coils got warmer and more boost was thrown at them.

Agree with this.
I've seen old coil packs fail soon after a power increase.

i agree with everyone's advice. My car used to be around 8-14 sometimes get a 19 but nothing to worry about. I also got a reading of 85-odd, which unfortuently destroyed the bottom end, ahving said that i was on track and didn't notice the reading straight away... by which time i was way too late. Sounds like you causght it quick so hopefully you'll be ok!

I would suggest the reading was the noise of the bottom end rather than the other way around, chicken and egg etc
