Default Locked SimTek ECU - E1S97

Hi all,

I have established that my car has a SimTek ECU, an E1S97 model to be exact.

There is a sticker on the ECU which states that it has been locked by the original tuner.

Does this mean that I can only take the car to the original tuner or can any SimTek dealer map the ECU?

I am in Devon and have used EngineTuner before and was delighted with their service, I believe they are SimTek dealers. I want to take the car there for a remap and some possible upgrades.

Thanks

No who ever you want canmap the car,you just need to contact your new mapper and provide them with a seriel number and they will get the software sent to them from Simtec and they can map your ecu.
Alternitivly you can buy a Dongle specific for your ecu from Simtec, and any mapper can use your dongle to map your ecu, think they are 120gbp

Well, it wasn't us! we don't lock ECU's even if we could. I have a feeling I might know whose car that was though!

Thanks for the info chaps.

I know who mapped it, as the sticker clearly states the company name. But I wont divulge on a public forum as I have been down that road before and I did not like the journey!

I will give you a call now Alan.

Thanks

The mapper doesn't lock it its encoded in at source, but thats an attempt at misinformation designed to put someone off going elsewhere.

As mentioned any mapper can remap it using an ecu specific software patch but they cannot see whats in it and would be doing it again for you. Thats not a problem of course, but just to clarify that you will be paying for a complete remap not an adjustment of the maps that are already there.

cheers
