disconnection of carbon cannister a bad thing?
Morning all,
I went out for a drive last night and noticed that when cold the car (MY93 JDM WRX) the idle was dropping really low when coming to a stop and it generally didn't quite feel right. not sure quite how, as i couldn't put my finger on it.
Anyway, paranoia ensued so i pulled over and took a look under the bonnet and noticed one of the small hoses (the side with the valve in, if it makes a difference) that attach to the carbon cannister had come disconnected at the other end. i pushed the hose back onto the thin fitting (on the block or inlet?).
The car felt a little better after that, but what i want to know is, what effect would this have had on the engine? any change to the mixture? Why do i even need the cannister?

Thanks Richard.
So presumably whilst this has been disconnected the engine will have been running a bit lean?
Binning it sounds like a good bet. Not sure how I'd go abotu sorting out a tank vent in a safe place though.. anyone got any advice?

A safe place is away from the engine. On mine the original canister vent was on the OSF of the chassis under the car,so I ran a pipe from the NSF bulkhead breather pipe round the F of the car & joined to the original canister vent pipe. There are other ways to do it if you do a search but my way is simple & I consider this to be a safe vent as it's where Subaru intended the canister to vent to.
