Answer 1, make sure the car u buy has plenty of history, proof of service if possible, not just the sellers word

Answer 2 don't bother with ice, it's cold lol, just a nice set of replacement speakers and decent head unit, there not saxo's mate

Answer 1 - Get an STI, not a wrx

Answer 2 - Who needs in car entertainment when you have the sound of a subaru at your disposal.

With high mileage full service history is vital, also how many owners the less owners the tendency is it may not have been thrashed.

You need to think what kind of mileage you may put on it in terms of re-sale value.

Take your time & don't dive in. What model & mods are you looking for if any?

If you know anyone who is knowledgeable about Subaru's or performance cars in general this will be an advantage to take them along for viewing or picking their brain.

Good luck mate

Get an sti. you will only spend the money making the wrx to the spec of an sti been here done that lol. 2 stereos are easy enough to change/upgrade ie head unit and speakers, no harder than ne other car...

Hi and welcome to Snet

I suggest you take your time and choose a car that has been owned by a Subaru enthusiast as it will more than likely have been looked after properly. Don't just go out and buy the first car you view through excitement lol. If possible take someone with you who has a understanding of these cars that way they can point out any problems with the car. You can join a local Subaru club and ask if any of the members would assist you on viewing a car these cars can be a money pit if not looked after correctly so make sure you buy a good example!

Good luck

With any high mileage car always asked to see a service history and receipts. A truly cared for scoob should have all these available.

As for ICE just look on the forums for tips and advice on the best equipment about for your budget.

Goodluck and welcome.

Unless you are going to remap at the same time to suit the mods.

What an outpouring of support, thank you very much guys, at present I’m only going to cars with full history and enthusiasts, Saw an amazing example yesterday of a 98k World Rally Blue bug eye with 2 owners and full history from new for 2.5k only thing that disturbs me is the mileage.

Looked at roughly 5 cars so far so defiantly not going to be buying the first I see.

The help on here has been invaluable.

Thanks again

Sti's can be found for not much more, and you get so much more, stronger engine, 6 speed, brembo brakes, stronger turbo etc etc..

Okay so Sti's look good whats the difference bettween mpg.

I can deal with 20 -25 any lower than that and im gonna struggle. The car gennerally will be a toy for weekends however the wife who loves the damn thing wants to drive it to and from work which is an 18 mile round trip

Am i going to notice a differnce in fuel consumtion on the weekdays id hazard a guess at yes?

Let me know if im wrong as my preference would be an STI

Depends on road, traffic, and how you use the loud peddle
20-25 is realistic but be prepaird to watch the needle drop while you look at it

Farther-in laws WRX owned since new has done 130k, track days etc and has needed one brake caliper on the rear, it runs like new! If its cared for should be epic.

Fuel consumption is an issue you need to consider as they are thirsty beggars especially if your giving it some. I get around 250 miles on a full tank with daily driving!

You should find a good low mileage wrx, perhaps with ppp for your 5k. You wont find if looking at an sti for the same cash.

I'll add my perennial old chestnut, rust. Please have a look at this:

https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...ame-query.html

And then have a much closer look at the underside of any Impreza you go to view.

As people have said, these cars are no different than any other sports car.
As long as it has a good service history, looks good, drives well and for around
£30/40 you can get the AA / RAC to do all the checks,
I.E insurance write off etc.I came from another mark to Subaru and was
lucky enough to find a nice example, buy just following the above.
So good look with the search there are plenty of nice ones out there
i'm sure.

If your looking at going for MODS in excess of 330bhp i would
advise the STI.If not the WRX will meet all your requirements.

It certainly was. Please have a read of the thread. I won't elaborate here if you don't mind as I don't want to hijack this one.

That`s more realistic. God knows how people manage 250. Must be all downhill driving.
