Scooby clinics 2.5 bottom end.....
Right guys Ive had my 2.5 forged build done by the Scooby clinic nearly 4 years now.........it's was the 450 package all but I stayed standard turbo....I had full magnex.....no fmic ect.....so forged bottem end and my sti 7 heads back on........has any body took the power of this build past 450 and it all been ok? I am maxing it out but would mind taking it abit further if possible.....any1 out there been here and done it? Cheers locky

I've spoke to Adam and he said 450 max......it's got to be down to the rods.....I've blown there head gasket and proofed that, but opening it all up again to put better rods in, would open a whole can of worms......I'd start spending silly money again.....but yeh would like to hear from kev about it.....

Thing is 4yrs ago no one knew as much as they know now about the 2.5,and i don't think anyone was doing 2.1.
As with all things development takes place and the levels of understanding move forward.
The 2.5 is well documented and 450 is the safe power limit, without pinning the block, but then your talking big money to have it all out and stripped and put back, i recon if it were me i would source a cdb and go 2.1 and then flog the 2.5, as that would be the cheapest way to 500+.

Well HG job has been done now, up rated gaskets and head studs......was even thinking am I safe around 470bhp with the bottom end? I'd like to source another block a build 1 from scratch to suit my needs but work and money is not on my side at the moment, I will be putting a md321t on it any way.....just see wot figures come back....only concern if it made more than 450......am I on borrowed time with it?

You say "it's got to be down to the rods" - is that your assumption? I very much doubt it's down to the rods.... more that it's down to the crap HG clamping and paper thin cylinders. I personally feel that 450bhp is too much for one of these blocks if you want proper reliability and you actually intend in using the engine proper - but that's another debate.
I, like most, have been there and done it and wouldn't go there again with a 2.5. The more power (all things being equal) you go over 450bhp on a OEM block case 2.5, the more chance you have of issues.
I ran over 600bhp on a standard 2.5ltr casing. I ran 530bhp+ very very hard. I had one instance of HG failure after 10k miles. Car was ragged on track and basically had a hard but well maintained life. A lot of this is down to the quality of the build, parts and very importantly, how the mapping has been done. However (regardless of how much abuse mine took), I would never do this again on a 2.5 - they are weak, period.
It's all about risks mate and whatever you do, you'll increase the risk when turning up the power.

Arp head studs been used and cometic gaskets.......I've a Perrin fmic going......650cc injectors also just fitted a 3" milltek straight through, 2 parts needed.......md321t and a up pipe to fit with magnex headers, might change them at a later date but leaving them on at the mo......

Pinning is the current accepted way of strengthening that type of block. Even though I'm yet to hear of any conclusive evidence to suggest this is any better long term.

The build come back with standard gaskets and standard studs......I stuck a 20g on and it blew within months........so asking about the build.....they say 450 max.....ARP studs are easy good enough at that power.....yes above that I'd go 14mm but like I said its just opening a can of worms.......4 years ago I didn't think I'd be think 500bhp or even still have that car.....but I've got it and won't the most out of wot Ive got at the moment.....

Most defo the HG failure was down to that......I mean it's known on the 2.5 and around the same miles I managed till it happened......30,000
Yeh it's a road car but I like to drive them hard as I wouldn't of first blew the standard engine the want more power ect.....

Then 450 on a 2.5 is plenty for a road car. Iirc the sc450 use mahle pistons but standard rods and bearings dont they? If thats the case then i'd advise replacing them. I think jgm has mapped a few 2.5's with the 321t and im pretty sure he's achieved around 450bhp at 1.5b of boost. Lower the boost the better on a 2.5 imo

Yes they use them pistons but on invoice and payed for Scooby clinic power pack rods and bearings as they said at the time there was two types of rods been supplied so they advised just to change them......which all I know off invoice is Scooby clinic power pack rods????

Has any body an idea wot the sc power pack rods are good for tho?
My hearts set on a md321t.....mods as above, 2.5 forged, sti7 heads, milltek, 650, Harvey up pipe, Perrin short ram induction, perrin fmic, standard ecu for now, lowered on teins, oz 18" ultraleggeras.....the list goes on......just picked up a full set of defis yester also to be fitted, with a few other cheeky mods....folding mirrors, carbon mudflaps, Perrin stiffys you get the picture fella yeh ;0)

Mahle power pack pistons and scoobyclinic F/R rods......the make I am totally unsure? Yeh my tunner knows the full script on strenghing the 2.5 block.......if I wanted 500bhp I'd defo go through getting it pinned and the bigger head stud conversion, better internals.......will a md321t make more than 450 just on v alone? If so then that's my worry, let's say 470......I'd just be praying for nothing to fail at that point, the 500 bench mark isn't a option at the mo or even a 500+ proofed block, hmmm safe 450 it is for now, cheers for the feed back and your insight lads ;0)

speak to kev to discuss, if you didn;t have the full build then im guessing money was an issue so things may have been done for a reason, sure he would have gone through all the options with you at the time.
