Default Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

Hello all,

No one will remember so there's no point pretending, about a year ago I posted about how I'd just turned 20 and had bought myself a Hawk R-Sport for a big "Congratulations, you didn't die" present to myself.

Well it's been one year now.. and I'm bored to tears of the slowness. So I did the only rational thing a man could do.. I bought an STI. Turning 21 in a few months.. it's the only time the insurance is affordable (Less than 6-10k).

It's got just over 60k on the clock so.. looking to get it serviced, how much am I expecting to pay on a Blob STI from a dealer? Cambelt was done 7k miles ago so that's great.

Also, are the alloys standard? (Pics below) as at first I thought they were but now I've looked at more pictures I'm not so sure! I know they've been painted gunmetal grey.

It also has a TYPE UK badge on the rear, as far as I could tell from searching around the internet, there isn't much/any difference to one without the badge.. presumably this just means it was made for the UK market? Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

All in all I'm a very, very happy bunny )).

It does have a Prodrive exhaust too (Not a full kit), I'm guessing I have to declare this on my insurance despite it technically being a factory extra? (Not a problem, just don't want to pay more than I have to.. but obviously still want to be legal.)

Cheers for looking and for any answers you can provide.

Congratulations - however I bet the insurance is ridiculous at your age.

Type UK is simply a Subaru UK thing, the car is European spec.
Standard alloys - depends on the age of the motor, but those were standard on early new age cars.
Prodrive exhaust - isn't anything close to factory extra.
That again was a Subaru UK warranty friendly option.

Personally I would declare the back box.

Looks lovely mate i bet you are chuffed with it!

Servicing costs will depend on what service is due, where are you located? You'd be better off taking it to a specialist than going for a main dealer.

Yep those are the standard early blob STI wheels. I think they changed the design of them when they went to the widetrack on the blob.

Don't go to the stealers for a service, use one of the specialists on here - Mocom, API, FB Tuning etc.

Cheers for your answers guys.

The insurance is.. high as I'd expect.. but not ridiculously high. Without shopping around Ive come up with a 2k quote so with some shopping, Ill maybe get it lower.

I will declare the backbox, I do have the standard exhaust as well but I'd prefer to keep this one!

I was trying to find a specialist near me, I'm in Buckinghamshire. Its the 60k mile service and I imagine a dealer will want to shaft me even more than the insurance companies do.

Oh and you're right. I am very chuffed

Check out the vendor directory re a service:

https://www.scoobynet.com/vendor_directory.php

Try insurance section too for a quote. Gary aka Moley from KMichaels can't be beaten imho.

Smoke & mirrors mate........... Thanks for mentioning API.

We used to run an 'unofficial APi salesman of the year' for the most recommendations given by 'netters during a year.

911 won it the first year [ remember him ?] then he got beaten by another regular and then it got up the noses of people without a sense of humour and we dropped it. You and JOZ8968 are probably running for it currently if it were to happen again.

Prize ? Just the satisfaction of knowing you are directing newbies the right way and free bacon rolls on a Saturday if you call in. Cost me 40 quid one Saturday a few years back.......

Nice car mate would of like one when I was 21

For insurance I would try Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels. Try and only speak to him as he is the scooby specialist and will give you by far the best deal. Has beaten every quote I have had for the past 3 years.

As for servicing I use FB tunning in Princess Risborough which I believe is Bucks. Have used him do all my servicing/tunning for over 2 years now and don't have a bad word to say about him. He has a very good reputation on here. If you want I can PM him your number.

Thanks again all.

I'll try out the insurance companies you reccomended.. don't know if they'll touch someone under 25.

I am near Dunstable so about an hour away from API.. would be cheaper than the dealer but still a little bit of a trek! Any others in the Dunstable area?
