who wants to see some rust?
took some pics of the arches on the car today.
drivers side rear.
passenger side rear.
i rubbed down and got the bubbled paint off and have found the edges of the rust,ie how high is gone up the car.
quick rub down and some kurust and hope it doesnt spread until i have the arches cut out and welded.
still need to get the back bumper off and see how far its gone underneath there.
any tips for takin the back bumper off?
a little bit more on the front panel.
overall is coming along nicely, still a way to go though
is how it stands at the mo
.
will be going down and trying to stop the rust spreading on the other side next week.
its not to bad,ive seen far worse, just hope its not really bad underneath when i inspect it more
cheers

Hate to be the one to tell you, but those rear arches will be a lot worse than you think.
They corrode from the inside out, what you see there is the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
To remove the rear bumper, there are 2 clips either side near the wheel arch, then get under the car and remove 4x 19mm bolts, (2 either side into the chassis legs) which will probaby be corroded also.
I'll not say anything more, but Good luck.

well i have seen worse, and on the worst side.
i have took all the paint off and the rust finishes at where the bubbled area is,it goes to clean metal then.
the little spots on the arch are just surfaced and can be ground back and treated, and he bad bits cut out and replaced.
i hope

If it looks bad on the outside then be prepared for a massive shock when they get the outer skin off.
Had mine done earlier this year. Looking at the rear arch they appeared pretty good, I had one small bubble on near side which most would just leave, but I wasn't happy so decided to have it done. When I say it looked minor I really mean minor.
This is what we found when the outer skin was cut away....
As someone said above, it eats it from the inside out. So you can bet your bottom dollar that it's a damn sight worse underneath.

I think you will have to repair the inner arch as well, and that will probably be worse than the outer, not a difficult job but best to cut it all out to save having to do it again.
Above picture shows it clearly, I repaired one on another car a few years ago and used an outer arch to repair the inner as it was close enough in profile.

@ mattyb, have you got any more pics mate of when you had yours done?
if it comes to it and its really bad i may have to reshell it,as it will be a cheaper option in the long run,
id rather keep it all in the original shell though.

Looks similar to the wheel arch on my bug, had to do the inner and outer arch. As my A/C had degassed itself over time so removed it this showed me the rust under there so have that to sort next.

No matter how bad it is it's repairable mate. Just be sure to use a decent bodyshop and expect a fairly hefty bill.
I had both arches painted with one side needing new metal, both rear doors blown over to blend the paint and the boot lid painted.
I know the guys where I go so got a good price, £400 for cash.

This evo that iam repairing is quite bad
Wheel well.
Rear chassis.
Rear arches.
Decided to cut the wheel well out and hand fprm a sheet of zintec
And then started on the waxoil at the rear.
The front isnt as bad,but it has gone through on both footwells
Not finished it yet, needs strutops doing and then painting.
