Default Opinions Needed Please

Hi all

Im in a bit of a dilemma at the minute. Ive got a uk turbo 2000 thats completely standard and running 196bhp. Now ideally id like more power, however I really like the P1 Impreza. Would you keep the uk turbo 2000 and spend a good few grand getting more power or would you put that money into buying an impreza P1. Id keep the P1 completely standard though and only use it over the summer. Ive checked the insurance and its fairly cheap to insure. So what would you guys do

Sell the Uk turbo to help fund a P1

Or

Keep the uk turbo and do it up

Theres only one way to find out "POST" ( i just see harry hills tv burp) lol

Are the turbo 2000 only 196? I thought they were 216.

My turbo 2000 made 250 with just a panel filter and s/s decatted exhaust.

Had it on the rolling road at eurospec last month. I was hoping to get it up to the 300bhp mark but it maybe easier just to buy a P1 straight out. Least they should be running a healthy 260bhp if its standard

You wont regret buying a P1 mate, i sold a well spec'd newage running around 380 and bought a standard P1 in mint condition and it was the best thing i did You can always come and have a look around mine if you want...

They run about 280bhp as standard mate, mine has a printout for 289 before it had a rebuild and the power will be upped in the summer

That looks stunning mate. I might take you up on that offer if thats ok. As much as what i love my uk turbo, i dont really see any point in chucking a good £3k -£5k to modify it and still not hold much value or even be close to 300bhp where as a p1 is pretty much the power i want straight out

As much as i like seeing a standard looking UK turbo with all the money spent on performance mods, my heart would be in the P1 because i think its one of the nicest looking cars on the planet.

I'd be happy to do either, but as a longer termer i'd go the for P1.

That is one of the reasons i opted to sell my newage sti, it cost me 7.5K and then i spent roughly 5K on it and when it came to selling only got £4500 for it Mind you it was over the Xmas period and i was in a rush to sell but i would have got more had i waited til Feb/ March time but i was too impatient and wanted to pick up the P1

I am only in Chadwell St Mary so not far away from you if you want to have a look around at some point.

Well currently running 289bhp with only a cat back exhaust, panel filter and newage topmount. I have a few parts to go on before remap and should see 320-340 for the time being. Also got whiteline ARB's and 4 pot AP's to go on soon

Ive been looking round and it would appear that i should get a decent p1 for approx £10k. Thats my limit anyway. Next question tho, do i break the subaru or part ex or sell privately

I am seriously considering selling/swapping my Spec C for a nice P1 or Type R, the way that I see it is that before long with all the scrappers gone out of the market the rarer classic models will start to rise in value.

It happened with Ford Sierra Cosworth's, series 1 RS Turbo's, Lancer Intergrale's and the some other cars - it's just a matter of buying one, waiting a while and then watch the values rise.

After all the prices on classic's would seem to be at an all time low, so the only way now is up.

if the car is in good condition i would sell it privately as there are far too many perfectly good impreza,s broken in my opinion all depends how much the money means to you though i suppose as unfortunately its true they are worth more in bits

You can have a good pool to choose from with a 10k budget and would expect a car in mint condition, just make sure it has all the right service history stamps and reciepts etc. Preferably a car with a forged engine and decent power but a must in my opinion is a big brake upgrade as the standard Subaru 4 pot aint man enough! I currently have the standard 4pots with DBA discs and DS2500 fitted and it isn't ideal stopping power and would become poorer with power increase but luckily i have the AP's to go on ready for when the power is increased

If its looked after properly and run on decent fuel there is no reason for it to be the most likely, it has the same engine as the V5 sti including type R

Never seem to here people saying they are more likely to go pop....

I totally agree mate, may take a couple of years for the chavy image to get wiped off but it won't be long before the badge snobs are jumping on the band wagon.

The Spec C in my opinion is a classic out of the box lol.

Not listening hard enough, most go bang at around 60K for some reason.

Not as common as UK 2.5's letting go for example, but, the P1 isn't as common as a UK 2.5

Get a type r for a more fun car with dccd and slightly stronger engine. P1's are more of a show car and are a bit over priced but thats only my opinion anyway im over the moon with my STi type R and really noticed a difference from my old wrx!!

It would need to be a special car to warrant a 10K price tag in my opinion.

Well speced Type R gets my vote but if you like the look of a P1 then go for it, far superior car to a UKturbo 2000.

Type R is a completely different kettle of fish to a UK turbo, much more than just the engine.
Type R's are at a point now where they are more affordable than ever, I'd be buying one rather than messing around with yours. You can't polish a turd as they say, lol.
Not saying a uk turbo is a turd though, but it's no type R that's all.
