LOL,
it makes no difference what is registered.
If tere is a reputation under the name scoobysport (be it good or bad ) then you can be done for passing off, so long as misrepresntation and damages can be proven as well as likelihood of confusion.
Passing off is a tort unlike infringement of trademarks which is specifically protected by the 1994 trademarks act.
Either way, I wouldnt worry, as you arent selling anything, so no damages, nor misrepresntation can occur.
There is no copyright in a name so you dont even infringe that, so over all, take a chill pill, and knock yourself out.
I know it wasnt asked for but this advice is free, so I can plead all the usual disclaimers etc, despite being qualified to answer .

Err.. don't know much about the legalities of this, but it seems to me that you're not breaking any rules or infringing any copyrights or trademarks....
...however Scooby Sport (the company) is a long time supporter of this BBS and it's their support (along with many others) that helps keep this excellent site free for the rest of us.
While your username may have nothing to do with Scooby Sport the company and everthing to do with the type of car you drive, maybe it would be a nice gesture to change it anyway...
Only my opinion..

to be fair guys it isnt really fair, and I think as a gesture of good faith you shouldnt do things like that.
There is always going to be a likelihood of people believing you are connected, so all you are doing by using that name is potentially misleading other bbs members.
Which inturn will make you appear to be dishonest.
since there are an infinite number of possible names you can choose, surely it would be nicer to do the decent thing and use another?

Richard, how many times have I told you to stop using my patented mind reading machine?
I have copyright in those thoughts, and claim rights to all patents i may take out based on concepts going through my mind when you read it!

It is a shame you felt it necessary to post this thread, when both Pete and myself had emailed you a polite request to chose another name.
I included the offer for you to contact me if you had any queries / problems, but you prefered to post a rant on here.
Out of respect for one of our long standing supporters, I would ask you again if you would mind changing your username in support of the community and in the interest of a harmonious participation with us all.
You can do this by changing your email address within your profile to webmaster@scoobynet.co.uk
I would be grateful if anyone else who has registered a similar name as a laugh (scoobysport_2) would do the same.
Many thanks
Simon
