Default will a wrx/sti run ok on 95 ron?

hey folks, im james and this is my first post. had a few performance cars in the past and decided its maybe time to bite the bullet and get an impreza wrx but idealy an sti. my worry is i only have 95 ron fuel in my area, to get 97 i would need to do a 100 mile trip. will the ecu knock back timing etc to compensate for the 95 ron fuel or am i likely to melt the engine?
let me know your thoughts, im not after huge power, a prodrive pack with full exhaust and a couple of other bits would do nicely

i have only had jdm, and as far as i know they need super unleaded as a min - but i have not had a mappable ecu only a replacement chip - someone who has had this done might be able to tell you otherwise but i doubt anyone will have asked for less octane tuned vehicle due to not getting the power from it.

im guessing uk scoobs will run unleaded or super unleaded though as they were designed for uk fuel

im sure someone will be along with a deffo answer for you though - oh & welcome along

Hi James the wrx/ Sti will run as long as its not an import and if a type uk then make sure it's standard if it's not standard then it should have had a re map which should run on 97 minimum

it will be a uk car, if money can allow it will be a hawkeye sti with ppp, then i will just do exterior mods and a full 3" system. if i end up mapping it then ill just have to drive 100 miles for fuel

If your having it mapped then just get it done with 95 Ron then will be fine, slightly down on power but will save the hassle if no super unleaded near to you, surprised though really as most garages I go to offer both

The sti should not run on less than 98 Ron or you risk it detting, it even says so on the inside of the fuel flap!!

I think the wrx is fine on 95 Ron,the sti requires 98 or above, I'd never use anything below 99 though

vpower or tesco momentum.
both 99 ron which my car is mapped for so octane booster is not required.
but my car is not standard or an everyday car so i drive it quite hard when i use it

Super unleaded minimum on an STI, doesnt matter if its a uk or jdm, they are mapped for the higher octane fuel.

OP, you would need to get the car remapped for 95 ron fuel, or else use octane booster, DO NOT run an STI on unleaded unless you want an engine rebuild!

Read it again where it says "EXCEPT STI MODELS"

It will also det on 95 ron fuel, the only thing that will do is put holes in your pistons (and it does det, you can hear it when you run 95 on a UK STI), and you missed the warning bit off the bottom

Second pic IS the STI model. They state 3 car models , non-turbo , turbo non-sti , STI.

The "warning" i missed off the bottom says not to use leaded fuel.

Oh , and why are you arguing with Subaru ? Its their book.

Mine has the 98RON only sticker on the fuel cap too , but they are hardly going to write the whole explanation thats in the book.

If you read the OP question of "can u run an STI on 95" the answer (acording to the book) is yes , but not as well as on 98.

Run yours on 95 ron and see how long the engine lasts, i'll give you 1000 miles max before it lets go, especially if you start pushing it

The people that run sti's on 95 Ron are the same people that fit sun ditch finder budget tyres to them.
As tony says run it on 95 and see how long it lasts.

Or, you could knock the price down a bit and get the car mapped safely for 95......

NO, wrx's are fine on 95 ron fuel, STI's (UK ones) are definately not
I will say that i have never had a problem finding super unleaded fuel in the UK though, and ive travelled around a little, it will be there you just have to look for it

i would get either a wrx or sti mapped for 95 anyway but sti sounds like a big risk, im happy to buy a wrx, its still a lovely car, i only need a fast family car, i dont quite need the whole sti package but it would have been nice for the days when im out on my own for a blast. anyone on here running a wrx on 95?
i realy want one but if i blow the engine i cant realy afford to go rebuilding it just now

Quick Reply: will a wrx/sti run ok on 95 ron?
