Went to a wedding in Blackpool at the weekend (via a 100 mile traffic jam on the M6

On the Saturday morning had to pop in to the town centre to pick up a few things. My wife got out whilst I waited in the car - turned the engine off.

When she got back, I turned the ignition key, pressed the remote button and tried to start it up. Nothing happened. Kept trying.
Got out and tried to lock/unlock but to no avail.

"Must be the remote batteries" I said. Went and got them changed but still no response. I told my wife to head off to the church whilst I called Subaru Assistance thinking that the entire security system had failed. Whilst waiting for someone to arrive, I called a local dealer who suggested I enter the override code - but I couldn't recall the number.

As soon as the breakdown guy appeared he knew what the problem was immediately.

Apparently there is a police antenna in the middle of Blackpool that interferes with the signal of the remote locking device (also happens on Beemers and new black cabs there).

The only solution was to tow me away from the area and try there, but unfortunately his recovery vehicle couldn't tow AWD cars, so I had to wait for an hour for a flat bed recovery truck to come, winch the car up and tow me 0.5 mile down the road (you can't imagine how embarrassing it is to have your car removed so ungraciously in front of hundreds of lads on stag dos!).

Sure enough as soon as we were away from the area the car started and I made it to the church in time to see the bride and groom leaving the church - at least I got in the photos and made it to the reception

Has this happened to anyone else???

If I had the override code to hand would I have been saved - in which case the lesson forus all is to remember the code!!!

Happened to me but did not get a ride on a tow truck.
Outside Natwest Bank in Tottenham Court Road by the bottle banks.
Kept trying the key fob & eventually disarmed the car after half hour or so [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

I got the Clifford Concept 600. What have you got ?
I did know about the problem from my local alarm installer but it dont help you as you already have set the alarm before you find out the problem is where you have parked.

Bl**dy annoying & thankfully has not happened again.

Certainly has, to more than one owner. The first meet I attended convened at layby with line of sight to a repeater mast

When a number of cars failed to start the penny dropped. As I arrived three people raced over to me shouting dont swith the 'kin car off, Out of sight the remainder of the group were pushing cars down a hill!

Did initially wonder what I'd let myself in for, but years later I consider them friends.

Happened to my R Reg. outside Halfords near Freeport.

Moblie phone mast just out of sight.

I.R. sensor picks up stray micro waves,thinks it's under attack by a scanner & goes into "ignore everything mode".

Draged round corner by mate - sorted.No keypad overide then.

UK300 Has pad.Sweet.

This is a new one on me,you wouldnt believe it all this techno and a mobile phone mast can stop you startin your car,demand a refund!The systems should be shielded from any outside RFIs surely[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

if the system was "shielded from any outside RFIs" then you might have even more problems trying to get your fob to work

Yes, at the Shell garage Northbound on the A1 south of Stamford. A repeater mast on the opposite side of the road. I couldnt push the car (broken neck and all!!), the guy in the station spoke a foreign language :-) so I had to call Mondial and the guy gave me a push to the other side of the garage, started first time. I even posted this on Scoobynet as a hot spot. (me being a 1st class d-head had forgotten the code for the keypad to restart without the radio transmitter).

This may sound stupid but I have the same problem from time to time and found that turning the radio on sometimes helps to override the signal from the phone antenna and lets you turn the alarm off.

Similar thing happened to my Dad in his Ford Explorer at a garage on the M11. Driving home late one nite stops to fill up etc. When he goes to start the car to leave nothing. In the garage he goes and chanes the batteries for some new ones at around £5 a go or whatever they are. Still nothing. Goes insode and the guy behind the till says "Happens all the time. Just push it round the back an it'll be ok." Anyone want to try pushing an Explorer in the rain at 1 am! Sarted 1st time round the back. Still can't believe the guy sold him a new battery first!

Had a Sigma ( which is the subaru standard fit) fitted to my Escort Cossy, same happened to me at a local hospital. Keypad overide saved me.

Had the same thing happen to me in Wilmslow out side the Hogs Head pub, only way to get in was to open the car with the key then get the remote as close to the control box as possible and start pressing the button like mad. This was on a Clifford.

Glad to hear that I am not the only person this has happened to.

My alarm was the standard UK fit Sigma on a MY99. Have since found the code and am committing it to memory! Next time I will start pushing!
